CommVEx questions for Peddle, Herd, Haynie
« on: June 11, 2009, 08:09:12 AM »
With the July 25-26 Commodore Vegas Expo (CommVEx) just 45 days away, the list of presenters and presentations grows longer, and my list of things to accomplish before the event grows more urgent.

CBM engineers Chuck Peddle and Bil Herd will be video-conferencing into the show, and CBM engineer Dave Haynie will be in attendance at the show.  Though the day of the video-conference has not been set (Saturday or Sunday) and the format of the conference has not be determined, I am sure that there will be time allowed for questions from the audience.

With that being said...

If you have questions for Chuck Peddle, leave them here.

If you have questions for Bil Herd, leave them here.

If you have questions for Dave Haynie, leave them here.

If you prefer not to place your questions for them here, send them to me.

Like last year's telephone conference with CBM engineers Bil Herd and Andy Finkel, all forwarded questions will be asked.

Opportunities still exist for 16-bit microcontrollers

A short overview of the TED's internal architecture would be interesting. I'm especially interested in TED sounds, how the pulse and white noise waveforms are generated, and are the C16/Plus 4's "audio in" pins connected to the TED?

Not a question but I'll let them know your sentiments.  :)

CommVEx is compact, averaging 35 attendees.

Ah, we've only had one vendor through all these years of CommVEx.  However, we would welcome more.  If a vendor wants to set up a table, all he has to do is pay the $10 admittance fee and give an item for the raffle/door prize.

We'll have about eight Commodore and Amiga set-ups going around the room.  Everyone is free to use/play around with the set-ups.  This year well have an A1200 tower with OS 3.9 and Blizzard '060, an AmigaOne G4 with OS 4.1, a CommodoreOne (a.k.a. C-1 Reconfigurable Computer) tower, and an encased Minimig (tentative) among the set-ups.

Nice question.  Bil Herd and Dave Haynie should be able to answer that.

CBM engineers Chuck Peddle and Bil Herd will be video-conferencing into the show, and CBM engineer Dave Haynie will be in attendance at the show.

I just got back from R.J. Mical's dinner party... my first time to his house. He was a very gracious and jovial host. The 2 or 3 dozen people there made for a spirited crowd. Though I felt out of my element with all these people in the electronics industry of the Silicon Valley, I did my best to mingle. When talked turned to computers, I was quick to talk about CommVEx, Commodore, and Amiga. Of course, I invited those interested to make an effort to come to CommVEx.

Late into the party, Dale Luck appeared. I told him about CommVEx -- about how Dave Haynie was to attend, about how Chuck Peddle and Bil Herd were to video-conference into the show, about how Jeri Ellsworth was to set-up the video-conferencing and moderate. He smiled when I mentioned Dave's name and was genuinely interested in the show. He'd like to attend but no promises.

R.J.'s party ran until after midnight. I was the last out the door, and as I was leaving, I invited R.J. to CommVEx. He enthusiastically said that he would attend! I said that CommVEx has had more 8-bit Commodore people there than Amigans, but he emphasized that he wanted to meet the 8-bit crowd!

So if you have any questions for Amiga software engineer R.J. Mical, post them here or send them to me.

If you have any questions for Amiga software engineer Dale Luck, post them here or send them to me (just in case Dale shows up).

I'd like to see something happen on the Amiga classic hardware, much in the same way that old cars people still mess with engines and stuff like that, is there any chance of Dave Haynie getting bored and updating AAA so that the demo scene can play with a 32 bit copper for example ? ;)

By the way, where will the answers be posted ?

O.K., I'll ask.

If Jeri can get a channel going on UStream.tv, you might be able to see it live through there.  Any video will be archived with BIOS at Blip.tv  If worse comes to worse and we can't get the video-conferencing working, then we'll do a telephone conference and have that posted, like last year's Bil Herd-Andy Finkel call-in.

As for a written transcript, who's up for writing it all down?  :)

Thanks, that's great, I probably won't watch it live but I'll surely check it out later on.

Hi Robert,
is there any chance, someone can compile the entire event to DVD and then offer it for sale?
i'd be interested, and i'm sure others here too.

Question 1: What made you leave Commodore (Chuch Peddle, Bill Herd)
Question 2: If there's one thing you look back at, what would you have done differently?
Question 3: What do you look back at, and what is your fondest memory from those days?
Question 4: What working Commodore/Amiga machines do you have?
Question 5: Have you kept any prototypes? (I know Dave Haynie has the triple AAA board ;-) )

Jam session with Dave Haynie at CommVEx v5
« Reply #13 on: June 13, 2009, 09:25:25 AM »
I just received this today from CBM engineer Dave Haynie --

---------------------------- Original Message ----------------------------
From: "Dave Haynie"
Date: Fri, June 12, 2009 4:16 pm
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

[big snip]

Also, if there's any interest in putting together a musical jam session (and space for it), let me know... we tried that some East Coast events sometime back, with varied success, but usually lots of fun. Though I can't exactly bring my PA system on the plane  This was a tradition at C= parties going back to the early days.

-------------------

I told him that we can provide all the equipment and that there are musicians in the Southern California Commodore-Amiga Network and Clark County Commodore Computer Club (of Las Vegas).  Those musicians will be there to jam with Dave.
