Hi All!

Just picked up an a 4000 and it has a v9 buster on it (with a wire jumped between two pins- not sure what that is about)

anyway I want to upgrade to a v11 and I see that Amigakit has some for sale but my version is not socketed. I have someone that is reliable that can solder the chip for me but I don't know what to do or where else to go since I need an SMD version of this chip- can the PLCC version easily be converted ? I read on here that added the socketed board might not be a good idea...

 Help!

If you have someone that is able to solder as you say its as simple as getting the correct socket for the buster 11 (PLCC). You remove the old chip. Clean the old solder off the pads and solder in the PLCC socket. Insert the new Buster 11. I have done it several time and its quite easy.

This is how its done. Not an Amiga in this video, but the process is exactly the same. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30x4oxyczH4

The Buster is 84 pins correct ?

 Thanks Again!

Buster is 84 pin yes. You need a surface mount version. They look like this one, but get a good 3M or known brand, not one of these Chinese ones. https://www.westfloridacomponents.com/S026PD/84+Pin+PLCC+SMT+IC+Socket+Molex.html
