If that was the case, we would have a maintained 3.9, or maybe even 3.10.

There is a lot of 3.1 in OS3.9 still, (and pre 3.0 too) and I suspect that many of the bits and pieces that are updated in this 3.1.4 are also relevant for 3.9.

I'm not yet at the prefs. Currently, the 3.9 Prefs work ok with it, and there aren't any new features beyond 3.9, except bug fixes.

Good. I ask for prefs since I have been using tweaked 3.9 on 68000 since forever, and the only really "big" problem are the prefs of OS3.9 that all depend on resource.library and Reaction, which are 68020+. And among them, only the Workbench prefs is lacking in 3.1.

I take it for granted that Reaction (and resource.library) are among the code that is ouch of reach?  All prefs programs rewritten with gtlayout.library would have been superb, and so ... fitting

While we are throwing around ideas... how about some mechanism to have system time survive reboots, even without RTC available?

Would also be nice if C:reboot could "lock" mounted local disk devices before performing the reboot (I think for example LoadModule does this).

C:Date needs some love, it's confusing the way it does locale, and it could really need "LFORMAT" like option.

And speaking of LFORMAT, the default output from C:List does not work well with long filenames and more, would make sense to make it terminal/console width aware, or ar least user configurable (for example via a variable). Oh, and.. the lack of a %X (where X is any available letter) that is similar to %P only without trailing / has been driving me nuts!

Hope the new "ugly" HDToolBox has meaningful ways of dealing with small partitions on huge drives, like being able to specify partition size in MBs (or MiBs in newspeak).

I have also somewhere mentioned that I want to ask you if you have thought of some equivalent to back-ticking, since back-ticks can be so tricky to ... communicate, something akin to $(command) instead of `command` on *ix shells. So, eh.. have you?

The more relevant question is probably "will there be a printer.device". Quite frankly, which printers do you want to connect to the Amiga, and how? Parallel printers are hard to get, except in a museum, and printers you can get are most likely not supported by any printer driver we have. So what exactly do you plan to do?

Print to network printer or to file, like I always did.

I have a Commodore MIPS 1200P line printer :laughing:

What plans are there regarding prefs apps in general? Just leave them as is? Especially I am curious about workbench prefs, since I get the impression that workbench.library v45 will be used.
