So does this mean we will now have a "fork" of AmigaOS 68k at 3.1, so we'll have 3.9 which has to fall the way-side for official updates while 3.1 gets official updates?

I will have a system ready to try this out when it's ready.  I have both bare 68000 and 68020+ I can give a whirl.  Of course, if I ever bothered with UAE or AmigaForever I'd have much more versatile configurations available :)

You must have read my mind.  I was mulling about with the 1MB KS ROM question (I have a ROMY for my 4000, and I understand the 1200 supports 1MB KS natively,) so being able to build my own ROM *could* be useful, or maybe the option to obtain official 1MB KS.

I need to dig out an A500 without critical files on it and set the date to beyond its limit and see what happens to system time, file stamps, the RTC, etc.  What happens when rebooted?

See you in hell. :D

Sure, 3.1 with a 4 or 16 color HiRes Workbench is fast.  Noticeably faster than 256 color AGA, and 16-bit color via RTG.  Still quite usable even with the 040 I used to have in this rig (now an 060.)

To be fair, my 030 500+ can still only do a 16 color Workbench, but even with that 3.9 is quite usable.

Sorry you had such problems.  Maybe someone here can help before you put them back away -- either fix up your Amigas or take them off your hands.

Anyway, this kind of journaling could be added to my 'C' language FFS reimplementation with very little changes required. However, making the journal operations fast is tricky, and I also still have to figure out how large the journal should be. This could be an interesting project for 2018 :)

(Incidentally, did anybody actually like series 1 of Blackadder, or is it just that it pales so much in comparison to the series which followed it?)

Sun implemented journaling in UFS in Solaris 7.  I am curious how it did so but I have never spent the time to dig up the information.

I liked it, but I think I enjoyed the first season more for Brian Blessed.

BTW, while we are at it. The big "thank you" note goes to Olaf for contributing an updated disk-doctor which has just been released to our beta testers. Yes, the one that speaks long file names that will come with 3.1.4.

I still need to see on which disk we can possibly fit it since it gained some weight - while it also gained a lot of knowledge. It is hard to believe, but the old "barely translated from BCPL" disk doctor didn't even know a lot about subdirectories...

But maybe I should leave it to Olaf to tell this story.

FANTASTIC!  Indeed, thank you, Olaf.  You know we all want to hear about it.

I can assure you it is pretty simple to upgrade a 3.9 system with 3.1.4 components. You only need to take care of a few precautions.

I'm in.  Shut up and take my money :)
