The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition
« on: February 08, 2011, 07:13:50 AM »
And this is my next project. To get the recent revamp of the original Monkey Island, working under ScummVm on MorphOS and AROS. All I need to do is await for the game to arrive.

As you can see in the Youtube link, all the graphics have been updated (which we won't be able to enjoy), the music has been redone, and dialog has been added through out the game!!!

Seeing as ScummVm is up to date on our beloved Amiga clones, I can not think of a reason why this will not work.

Alas, the Amiga will run something that was recently released upon the main stream market! Well and of course that and the new Episode of DOOM II for the 360, if you know where to look. ;)

EDIT: Removed this bit to clear up confusion.

Youtube Video: (warning comical spoilers!!!)

I know, but it looks like everything else is, even the retaining of the original dialog script if I'm reading correctly.

The only thing though (I've not read far enough) is that I'm not sure if the small tweaks done to the ScummVM  source that help this to work 100% (minus graphics update), were carried over to the official ScummVM source. So it might be possible that these small adjustments may have to be added into the Amiga related sources.

I'm reading about this, and have found the source here along with a new tool for converting SE to ScummVM:

http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=199288&page=9

EDIT: This apparently still hasn't made it into the official source tree, so an alteration of the Amiga related code(s) would be required for now in order to pull this off to it's best ability.

You don't get the graphics, but you DO get the speech!! :)

The new graphics ARE cool, but honestly, my love for the classic graphics will never die.

Um... I'm pretty sure the iOS version has a preference setting to keep speech in classic mode... I'll check later.

This patch makes it so that you can play with Classic GFX plus Talkie via ScummVM.

My latest links in this post explain it all.

A MI2 project is underway, though it's not nearly as far advanced as this project.

If anyone wants to tweak the Amiga related sources, all the details are on page 8 here:

Heck ya! I DO Love a good FPS, though more along the lines of Riddick or Half-Life 2, but Monkey Island made my stomach hurt for days when I first played through it!

I can confirm that the new Sound Track and Talkie bits are working in the Windows tweak of ScummVM found on page 8.

I'm playing it right now!!! ;)

They did a GREAT JOB on the production of this, and having the classic graphics I think is the better of the two options. Not that the new Graphics blow or anything, in fact they are awesome, but THIS is how I'm used to Monkey Island looking, quirky mouth movements and all. It only adds to the comical appeal, and as they say in the video I posted at the beginning of this, the early programmers crammed a LOT into such a limited color palette and in such a low resolution.

I gotta go write the author behind the Wii port now.

Come to think of it. This might be an chance to learn basic code editing and compiling...

Now what tools might I need to edit and compile code for MorphOS?
