I dunno if that is strictly true. I would imagine you could go beyond 880Kbytes if you wanted to.
What I wanted to say actually is that this device is subject to floppy drive controller limitations.
Though, to think of it, the Amiga floppy drive controller is pretty flexible. Still, it's surely no USB port equivalent.
