the sickest game ever made? could be
« on: November 26, 2003, 01:36:03 PM »
hi guys,

on looking for game reviews on the net i found this one:

"Child Murderer:

Here you play a petty criminal, planning to rob the house of your employer,
but your "friend" and co-criminal sets you up, and at the begining of the
game you find yourself with the body of your employers six-year-old (or
something) daugther. Your aim is to get away without being arrested, and
(If my memory serves me right) get revenge on your friend. In order to avoid
being framed for the murder of the child you have to dispose of the body...
and the way you do this is VERY gruesome (Warnings for the faint of heart...)

You have to bring her to your friend, the butcher, who will make sausages
out of the body, and then you feed the sausages to a dog. *brr*

I can't say I enjoyed this game very much, because I couldn't feel any
sympathy for the protagonist...but a game is a game, so I finished it anyway."

has anyone played this game?

Child Murderer? well its not as bad as i thought, i thought it was a against the clock game where u have to slaughter as many kids as u can...
now thats an idea for a game

Yeah..I'd say that's a poor idea for a name of a game. But I'm sure it was planned out and named that on purpose. Why..it got you to d/l it didn't it.

And I remember when Barbarian for the c-64 was the sickest thing I ever saw in a game.(decapation move) Oh the times they are a-changin'.

I'd judge holocaust reenactment games sicker than killing kids honestly.....you know...the neonazi crap.

Maybe I live in a hole - but I have to ask. (Due to shock ..not intrest ) There is a title out like you speak of. There is a Neonazi genre of games? That's very bizzare.

I've got this old book which tells about the glory days (i.e. the eighties) of the Chaos Computer Club of Hamburg. A member of this Club cracked NASA's computers sometime in the eighties, apparently a big media thing back then.

Anyhow, there's also a chapter about neonazi software in that book. Unfortunately I can't give you titles; the book is still at my parents' place. I drew the conclusion if there were neonazi games in the eighties there also must be the same crap nowadays.

I can't be bothered to do a search on internet, but I'm sure some googling will yield some results.

I remember Child Murderer being reviewed in a magazine, in the PD section. I don't remember much about it, except that they said it wasn't what it sounded like and was actually quite good.

@odin

Sure there are, from Wolfenstein-remakes to flash-trash similar
to the fun games you'll find on the web.

Even some of the "reinact WW2" games have questionable parts
from time to time.

Not sure whats worse, nazi-games or kill-a-kid  :-x
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

The name's been changed at some point, the Windows version I've seen is just called 'The Murderer'. Okay, so it's not Broken Sword or anything, but it's not bad. The aim of the game isn't to kill children...

The Child Murderer isn't nearly as bad as the name implies... I should know, as I am the fellow who actually wrote the game. Glad some folks still remember it.  As for the 'gruesome' factor, I would consider one of my ancient titles, 'Inner Demons' worse... in a good way -- I consider it a better game than Child Murderer.

As for the title itself... yeah, it probably wasn't the wisest choice, but it was meant on purpose to attract attention. I had a very small publisher interested in selling it ages ago, and thought perhaps an oddball title would help sales. In the end it didn't really matter, as they went out of business relatively quickly, and before they even had a chance to do anything with the game (and even if they had, they told me they wanted to change the title anyway -- distributors are rather picky regarding such things).

There is a Windows version of the game available online, with the shorter and more acceptable title of The Murderer. Not a work of art, but if you have slightly morbid tastes and like adventure games, you might want to try it out.

My website has further info:

As for the amiga versions, I have stumbled across it upon various emulator sites. I think Back to the Roots has it.

By the way, do you recall the name of the magazine and issue that reviewed the game? I did collect one or two reviews of my other Amiga games, but I never ran across a review of CM. If anyone out there remembers what magazine it was reviewed it, I'd appreciate further info. If they also happen to know where I could purchase this issue, it'd be great.

Thanks,

Michael
