You can use tools like SysInfo and WhichAmiga to show the CPU and speed.

Also IMHO a 040/25MHz will for the most part ALWAYS be faster than a 030/50Mhz...  Maybe not mind boggeling of a difference but never the less faster.  You do need Fast memory though, otherwise it will CRAWL.

 For the cpu command:

simply add this line very early in your startup-sequence

run >NIL: c:cpu burst datacache databurst instcache

If you want to remap the ROM into the RAM, add FASTROM in the line, too.

This simple command will bring all the horse power to the 040. :rtfm:
Goodbye people.

Uhm, why run it?

And anyway, Blizzard 1240 already has the optimal cache setup from SetPatch, no need to tune it with cpu command.

Houston! ... that card have a problem!

and about that "capacitor decoration", i've heard the same from some AOne users as well! unuseful capacitors on a CPU card! LOL!

Maybe the setpatch have made some kind of mess with the CPU behaviour, so is best try it to look if all is OK.

I use "run >NIL:" only to not see any requester.

Amiduffer! the man! :-)  thanks for clearing that up.................one thing I know for sure is that this 040 gets SUPER hot really fast! I have 2 fans in there.

I did not have Blizkick installed because I am using my own harddrive.  I want to install it but Blizkick is Darn Super hard to understand and how to install and configure properly (Sorry...I dont understand the lingo in the docs plus the abbreviations when giving examples). I did experiment with the beta GUI thing but no cigar

Well, the author of Blizkick is right here, I'm sure that he'll help you with it. There was somewhat of a noticable speed increase, so go for it. If I could install it, anyone should be able to install it.
Amiga 3000D UP and running! Hear that clicking. 8)

One of the best attributes of the Blizzard boards is the ability to use Blizkick. ;-) (Something I really miss with my Apollo board, actually.)

@leirbag

A good idea is to get it working using very basic setup at first. Start by simply mirroring your rom image (make sure your maprom jumper is set to enable), after that's working you can begin to experiment with all the cool features (and probably end up with some insane long blizkick line in your startup).

At the beginning of your startup-sequence (IIRC):

c:blizkick location-of-your-romimage (usually sys:devs/kickstarts)

There should be some tools included to make an image of your rom, otherwise hit aminet.

If you need to use the CPU command to enable any caches then your software setup is screwed anyway and CPU cmd can't fix it.

Why not just
Code: [Select]
c:cpu >NIL: bla bla?

@-D-

thanks, that help a little. But I dont get how to use the ROM ripper..............and what does it name the ROM exactly?  and where does it go when I rip it?

I have a bunch of ROM images of all kinds in my Kickstarts drawer in DEVS that I think are for WHDload.

I have 3.1 Roms on my a1200...........but what I REALLY want and REALLY want to know more than anything is if it is possible to use the CD32 ROMS instead and if I could boot to the CD32 Music CD menu with it?

I dont think My Blizzard card allows MAPROM anyway........I tried it and it rejected me with:  "You must have MAPROM feature on your card for this to work....etc...etc..."  or something like that.

So the author is Piru from here?  cool.

Piru..............help (direct me carefully and in detail...........I need exact examples and names if you dont mind)

perhaps type the examples exactly how you have it in your own startup and I will figure out where to redirect them on my HD.

EDIT: oops, forgot to mention my 68040 specs...I finally checked yesterday:

CPU card model: 68040  XC68040RC40M
Crystal: PHILIPS XO5860 80000.000   02453.0003

SysInfo:
CPU/MHZ   68040 39.20
FPU:    68040+68882
MMU   68040 (IN USE)
VBR   $78489698
Comment    Numero Uno
Dhrystones  26465
CPU MIPS  27.62

From Shell:
1>cpu:  68040 68882 (Inst: Cache Burst)   (Data: Cache Copyback)

From what I see, my card is 40mhz?  and the Crystal is 80mhz?  so I should get a 100mhz crystal to make is 50mhz?

My card appears to have no MAPROM feature?

It gives you a fried CPU most likely. Don't try it.

Enable the MAPROM jumper.

The simplest way to launch BlizKick is:
Code: [Select]
1> BlizKick *
If it reboots your system it (probably) worked. You can verify by trying "BlizKick *" again.. If it worked, this should return an error message.

@Piru

You mean literally type:  BLizkick *  ?

whats the asterisk for?

and how do I make Blizkick use a module for instance?

and since you are here:

Can I use a CD32 ROM and have it boot to the CD music menu with a CDROM drive attached? I want to be able to make my A1200 run the CD+G Karaoke Discs.

whats the asterisk for?

As the manual states, it will  make BlizKick load the Kickstart ROM from the original ROM rather than a file.

As explained in the Usage section of the guide:
MODULES/M, for example:
Code: [Select]
BlizKick * MODULES romfixes patchmath020

No you can't.

@JosephC

I read the manual............dont really understand it.

@Piru:

WHy can't I use the CD32 3.1 ROMS?  cant I just rip them as usual and have my A1200 boot off of that via Blizkick?

I already have them in my DEVS drawer.

By the way I tested that Blizkick *  and it didnt do anything. Then I opened up the trapdor and noticed the MAPROM jumper and removed it............then tried the BLizkick * again and it rebooted my machine...........so should I put this in my Starup?   is it better to read the ROM from a file or from the original ROM?

CD32 is actually the best Amiga ever made by Commodore!...

Yeah I'm sorry about that. I tend to get very technical with stuff. BlizKick isn't really end user friendly, I'm afraid. :-)

Quote

Because your A1200 isn't a CD32. CD32 also has 1MB ROM, and MAPROM only supports upto 512KB. BlizKick has a hack (EXTRESBUF) to expand the area to additional RAM, but this cannot be used for 1MB ROM.

You probably want to try adding some modules, at least "romfixes".

Quote

If the file on disk and the ROM are the same then there is no difference.

Wow...........thanks for that...........now that is a Clear answer that I can understand :-)  the 1mb ROM thing..........I forgot about that.  However..............hahahahahah However................is it possible to use the CDTV ROM???  eh?  eh?   If I am not mistaken, I have already done it with some other software.

It says that if I got AsimCDFS and a CDROM, that I might be able to read Audio CD's in CDTV mode.  But the developer of the tool didn't try it for  himself............however he did try and booted into the CDTV Music menu as did I.  IT was so cool to see it.  I have the software somewhere.  It is called CDTVTOOLS or something like this. That might not be the name though as there is something else with the same name.

But anyway...........can I use a CDTV ROM with BlizKick?  it is 512k isnt it?

This is so important to me................because it will enble me to run CD+G karaoke discs on my A1200 and Karaoke is Very Popular right now in NY, Japan, Korea, CHina, Philipines and other USA states and growing.
