« on: May 20, 2011, 12:06:10 PM »
Hi All,
Took out my A3000 after a while of not using it and a problem occurred. While trying to boot off an 3.1 Install or workbench floppy Df0 reads it and does nothing goes back to insert disk screen. It an 357 floppy drive i have tried 2 other 357 all know working, i have tried different cables but no go. I insert disk floppy reads it for 5 secs then back to insert disk screen.

A3000 rev 9.2 Board, onboard 030, new plc chips, new WD 08 scsi chip, i have a zip to simm converter, buster 7, ramsey 4 and 3.1 roms any ideas?

open the drive up and grease the rails.  It's probably sat there too long and needs to get unstuck - happened to me with an A3000.  You can also clean the drive heads when you are it.

You might want to very gently slide the drive head on the rails when you have it opened up in order to get it unstuck.

although i have not tried that (fix the drive) i have tried 5 other drive 2 357, 2 354 and a teach which work on other systems and still no boot up. I have tried swapping the CIA's but no good.
If you put a disk in the Amiga recognized that a new disk has been put in but about a quick read of the disk it does nothing.

Have you tried a new ribbon cable?

I'd try reseating the custom chip (Paula)
you could check if df1: behaves the same.
maybe there are some jumpers on board for fdd?
Better sorry than worry.

This might be a stretch, and hopefully this doesn't apply to you, but try booting a known working disk ensuring that the floppy write protect is enabled.. (window open)

My A3000 does the same thing yours does, but in addition, it ruins the disks in this process so that they will no longer boot on any Amiga. With the write-protect enabled on the floppy, it works as normal.

My issue is not due to the drive itself either. Any drive tested did the same thing when placed into the 3000. I've not found the source of the problem, nor the solution.

if it worked before putting it into storage, might want to try cleaning the oxidation form the write/protect sensor pin contacts by pressing and releasing several times

OK some news its seem to have been the Zip to simm coverter since i took it out it has at least booted but since my 3.1 disks are corrupt i have to wait until i can make new ones :(*.
On a side note i can't remember when inserting zip into your A3000 is the printing side facing the back (KS roms are) or front (where the accelerator card port is).

Can test the converter anymore since i broke one of the pins... :( oh well have to fix it later.
