Hi,
I am drooling at putting a new 16 MB GVP SIMM in my A1200's GVP "Jaws" 1230 accelerator, but I don't have a manual. Anyone know what the jumpers are on this thing?
Thanks

*Bump*
Anybody? The SIMMs will be arriving any time now and I don't know how to set the jumpers to get the accel to recognize them ... :\
thank you!

but nothing for the first version.

I have a manual for the 1230+ somewhere. don't know if it covers both models. Will have a look for it.

The manual i have is for the series 2, on this one you dont specify the amount of ram, you just tell it if its using any combination involving a 16mb simm.
So it has a jumper > jp3, that is installed if using a single 1 or 4mb simms. the jumper is removed if using a 16mb in either socket even if there is a 1 or 4 in the other.
Maybe this will help you a bit?

A quick google found these>
A1230+ Jumper Settings (from page A.1 in manual)
J1 ON = 68020 mode OFF = 68030 mode <------- wire a switch here
J2 ON
J3 OFF
J4 OFF
J5 ON = 16M SIMM OFF = no 16M SIMM
J6 OFF
CN4 2-3
CN5 1-2 = 4K ref SIMMS 2-3 = 2K ref SIMMS
CN6 1-2
CN7 2-3

friend:
If you bought the simm from software hut, you can call their customer service number and they will help you set the jumpers.
Cheers!!!

(edit) Hmm... so you think that might be for the original Jaws board. I have Googled every which way and not found anything conclusive. I will see if that is what I need...
thanks,

I sent them an email asking to have the information sent to me but haven't heard back. Maybe they will put something in the package they ship...
thanks

Thanks. I definitely have the Jaws I and not Jaws II. I figured it would have the 4/16 jumper, as this seems a common feature of GVP accels (I have a few for my A2000s as well). Still though I think the jumpers for the "A1230+" Jaws board are different than the Jaws II board. Confusing nomenclature too :)
I will check the other list you posted... which I think matches something I found on a French forum somewhere. Since I don't speak French I couldn't tell if that forum thread was accurate or not.
thanks

I'm pretty sure I have the manual for both the original GVP A1230+ and 1230+ Series II. Unfortunately, I have them at home, and won't be there until this evening.
Just to confirm, you have the original GVP A1230+ that has no clock battery and no expansion port on it, correct? (No place to plug a SCSI module...)

That is correct. Spot on. I have no (cry) connection for a (wail) SCSI module. :D
Thanks!

CN5 1-2 = 4K ref SIMMS 2-3 = 2K ref SIMMS
What do these refresh settings mean, anyway? I see them on all the GVP accel boards. Is it a speed thing?
thanks,

J3 OFF
J4 OFF
J5 ON = 16M SIMM OFF = no 16M SIMM
J6 OFF
For the record, I installed the two 16MB SIMMs, and set J5 "on". The system recognized a total of 16MB RAM. I took out one of the SIMMs, re-inserted the board, and the system recognized 8MB RAM.
I then set J5 "off", installed the second SIMM again, and put the board back in, and the system recognized 32MB total. Ran RAM tests, and passed twice.
So wherever this information came from, either it is wrong, or my board is different, or ... who knows. But while risking setting jumpers incorrectly, I did get my A1200 up to 32MB RAM today :)

Crap... I forgot all about this thread. I did find my manual, though, and have a PDF of it I scanned. Anyhow, for GVP A1230 Turbo+ (original) you are correct, the only change is remove J5 for 16MB SIMMS. Also, largest sized SIMM must go in Slot 1.
A1230 Turbo+ (original) Jumpers:
J1 - ON - 68020 / (OFF - 68030)
J2 - RESERVED (ON)
J3 - RESERVED (OFF)
J4 - RESERVED (OFF)
J5 - (ON - No 16MB SIMMS) / OFF - 16MB SIMMS PRESENT
J6 - RESERVED (OFF)
CN4 - RESERVED (OFF)
CN5 - (ON - 4k REFRESH DRAM 16M) / OFF - 2k REFRESH DRAM 16M
CN6 - RESERVED (ON)
CN7 - RESERVED (OFF)
(.)=DEFAULT
So, PM me your email address, if you want a PDF manual for any of the following:
GVP A1230 Turbo+ (original, no expansion port)
GVP A1230 Turbo+ Series II
GVP A1291 SCSI Kit Performance Series II (SCSI expansion for A1230+ Series II)

Refers to the layout of the DRAMs, more of a 'timings' thing than a significant performance thing:

GVP A1230+ JAWS II jumper 3 = on for 1 / 4 MB ram simm,
Jumper 3 off for a 16 MB simm. J5 = on for ROM enabled.
Others don't matter.
