this is driving me crazy!

I have a csppc 233mhz by phase5 coupled with a g-rex4000D.
up to the point I install warpOS libs everything works fine. if I install wos (and still in AGA) then the amiga will boot and 3 things can happen:

1. os3.9 icons will load, but when it comes to load the backdrop the amiga will hang.

2. os3.9 icons will load, and when it loads the backdrop the AGA output will go OFF , the amiga works FINE and if I switch to the voodoo3 I will see the 4color representation of AGA (it uses the ppc to copy gfx data to grex video card)

3. after icons the aga display will be totally garbled.

IF I delete (using voodoo3 display ofcourse) from LIBS:  powerpc.library and reboot all work excellent again after a reboot!

and this is with a fresh 3.9 installation, bb1+bb2, and cgx4 (inactive, no cgx mode used or configured)
no probs whatsoever with aga before wos install, ppc pcu is fine as far as I can tell (runned ppc software rock solid 30 mins before I re-install OS), tried entering from wos prefs to always use the video address $82000000 ....
run a memcheck prog on chipmem and fastmem all OK

waht else to do?  :madashell:  :madashell:  :madashell:

solution the 300W mATX psu I used is crap, use high quality psu!

tried powerpc.library V16.1beta (07.01.01), (from webpage: last version working with ppclibemu. Official V16.1 from BoingBag has a bug!)
but still the same!

Are you using the latest CGX4? The version straight off the CD is buggy with BB2. Also do not use the 56KHz Audio setting with CGX, as it garbles Amiga native modes.

the problem happens even before cgx4 installation, I only installed it for test.... ofcourse 56khz audio is unchecked.
also I use the latest cgx4 update from DJBase's support site.
also deleting powerpc.library fixes the problem, cgx has nothing to do with it...

OS3.9 datatypes use WarpOS if it is installed. So if it hangs on loading the backdrop, then something is wrong with your PPC.

Check if the PPC fan works and that it's not getting too hot.

I'd also test it with the G-Rex disconnected.

How did you install WarpOS ? All archives available for download are updates only. You first have to install "PPC support" using the OS3.9 installer, then you can install the updates.

Which firmware does your CSPPC have ? Did you make an update for the G-Rex ?

Did you install the 68060.library matching the CSPPC firmware version ?

and this is with a fresh 3.9 installation, bb1+bb2, and cgx4

You should install everything chronolocically. First OS3.9 + 68060 libs, then WarpOS, then BB1. Now PCI libs, CGX4 + update and BB2 as the last.

Bye,
Thomas

BTW, here is a floppy disk to test the PPC: http://thomas-rapp.homepage.t-online.de/ppctest.dms

the ppc has a new 12v fan,and runs cool, also the case is open for now. the ppc itself works fine , I leave the warp3D ppc_gears to run for about 15min on my previous OS3.9 installation without any hardware change... my previous dead-ppc-csppc card, could run this test for only 2-20 secs, then wos crashed...

that I will do...

I did the initial install from OS3.9 cd... look down, I might have done that step wrong

csppc is flashed with the g-rex flash (else there is no PCI menu nor the cards on g-rex work at all) and the latest libs are installed. all downloaded from DJBase's g-rex site.

now that I have done completelly wrong. I installed 3,9 ->bb1 ->bb2 ->wos from cd -> internet progs from cd ->wos update ->cgx4
I hope this is the prob, I will try when I get back home your order Thomas. I usually install 3,9 -> interned + wos-cd ->bb1 ->bb2 ->cgx4  but this time I forgot to install wos in time...

@Thomas:
I just made the ppc test disk and run several times the warpOS test... it went OK...
I continue now to install in the order you described Thomas

Could be a powerissue maybe?
When the ppc kicks in too much power is drawn from the rest off the mobo?
Try with an original A4000 psu.
And check the connector off the mobo.
I also had this issue a few times and mostly it went away when reseating everything.
Especially the mediator board.
Once I had a nice antec psu instead off the original 4000psu all was well.

I even bought a new 400W psu then which refused too boot.
After that one I bought me a antec which did boot(300W or something).
You can't tell about wattage noted on the psu iff it is ok.
But just a suggestion.
Also remember a software issue which also caused something like you stated.
Can't remember what..

success to some point!

I removed EVERYTHING.
re-sitted the csppc but I did not bolted it in. (I use those nylon threaded spacers.
I only put the g-rex and the videoslot scandoubler and did not secure the busboard with the top metal part.
and I booted successfuly, with wos5,1 installed and the warpDT datatypes!
no crash or anything! it worked fine.

I have the threaded spacers between the mobo/csppc 17,5mm. that is the correct length right?
