I think wd, contact cleaner or similar would just remove more graphite, making it worse.
WD40 probably won't hurt any - and will leave a thin film of oil to protect from further corrosion. But to actually clean electronics and get something that has a bad contact working good again, like say potentiometers, buttons and similar electro-mechanical devices, you want a specialist contact-cleaner.Now, WD40 - the company - do sell this, link here. I'm sure similar products from other brands (CRC for instance) will do just as well.
ok damn this keyboard work taking alot longer than I thought so anyhow good news is that the non working keys are working again with a good cleaning and some WD-40 BUT problem is I have to press quite hard to make contact so next step is to tear down again and put some of that graphite paste orange was talking about.Looks like the cleaning of the rust wore down quite a bit of the contact pads
