Title: 68060 adapter for 3640 in 4000T?
Post by: Kremlar on May 21, 2016, 06:51:36 PM
I have a 68060 CPU purchased from the following thread on Amibay:
http://www.amibay.com/showthread.php?46251-68882-and-68060

It's marked XC68EC060RC50 but the seller indicated that it's a full 68060 with FPU/MMU.

I've recently seen that there is an adapter available to put an 060 on a 3640 and I'm wondering if this is worthwhile to do on my Amiga 4000T.  From what I understand a special Kickstart is required.

I understand it would not be as fast as an actual 68060 CPU board with RAM on board, but considering the high price of those boards and since I already have an 060 CPU I'm thinking it would be worthwhile to consider an adapter.

Any thoughts on this?  Am I missing something or would it be as easy as getting an adapter and new Kickstart?

Thanks!

I also bought a 040-060 adapter and put a 68060 rev1 with full FPU and MMU and the updated Kickstart ROM with the patched Exec.library.

It works fine, but it is much slower, because the 3640 card doesn't have local memory. Without it will be slow.

The performance is between a 040/40 MHz and 060/50 MHz.

I'm using a 50 MHz crystal.

For Real 060 you need this for A4000T
Pio2
Rommy
and special burned roms.
1) install the PIO2fix
2) turn on the Amiga and see if working fine
3) cleanup fatgary pins with acetone and coton swab
4) plugg Romy
5) install the patched rom 3.9
6) turn on the Amiga.

You can ask to Cosmos for details and for buy all required components
