I don't see the advantage over an ARM tablet as those have similar features, often with more memory and better resolution.

I've heard great things about the GCW Zero consoles. They appear to be easy to develop for, well built, and long lasting. Which is more than I can say about a lot of devices I've seen sprout up over the past few years.

As for me, I had a JXD 7300, but sent it back to the company because it was problematic.
With a little bickering, I was able to get a JXD S7800b back instead, which from everything I am hearing, is a major step up from the 7300 featuing improved specs, better design, and high compatibility. Apparently I can run both Dreamcast and PSP on it not to mention DosBOX at very high speeds...

....that's a sale to me. :)

Mine should be in tomorrow if the post office gets its butt in gear. It's already two days late. Grumble grumble.

Good thing about this console is that has official amiga kickstart licenses included. I heard the all-commodore emulator VICE comes pre-installed and ready to go.

So, supporting this console, also supports what remains of commodore, in a "spiritual" way.

I'd like to know how the games look on the screen's resolution and also if it includes all games pre-installed...

Where did you hear this, because there is nothing about this mentioned in their literature?

On siliconera.com:

"...the Zero comes with two emulators: Commodore and Amiga. Their BIOS can be legally distributed with the hardware."

Here's the link:

There's a vid on youtube with GCW Zero running a c64 emu and uae4all.  I'm almost tempted to buy one from Think Geek.

So it runs uae4all?
Not sure that's much of a selling point.

Any more than trying to run uae on a Raspberry.

I can do that on the laptop I'm typing on right now, probably better.

The only advantage I can see is the portability.

Well yeah... other portable units like Dingoo or Caanoo also do the job pretty well. But the GCW Zero is newer.

I guess I'm just not part of the target market, because I don't get it.

I've got enough devices, especially those I can play old fashioned games on.

I'm not in the market but it's pretty cool to carry around a portable retro system that can fit in your pocket.

Well, pretty much every smartphone is capable of running emulators, and even have a display with decent resolution. The GCW isn't able to display an C64 or Amiga screen without rescaling it.

That appears to be the primary advantage. And for those of you who still use a lot of Amiga games, its a really good one.
I don't want to knock it as, its just the apps I still use are productivity tools that will run under MorphOS (and that's not nearly as portable as the smallest device that runs on is a 12" iBook).
The Genesis and Playstation compatibility are nice.
And once all the hardware drivers are sorted out, original software created for the platform could be pretty cool.

Shame that there probably won't be any decent original software on it though.

but playing c64 games on my note 3 with no touchpad is terrible.  I can't seem to get used to the on screen joystick.

I agree, but then again, most c64 games are best played with a joystick. Even a crosspad doesn't work for all games. And how about the games that require pressing keys on the keyboard? :)

Yeah "chicken and egg" syndrome again.
Not enough software to attract buyers, not enough units/owners to attract software developers.

It looks nice and solid, compact, and the controls look good.
I just don't get into games enough to justify it.

It looks like it has a browser.
That could be useful, although there I'd probably stick to a larger device.

In 2014, at a 320x240 resolution, browsing would be horrible.

No worse than my Blackberry.

Edit - Then again, the Blackberry has a keyboard.

I've already got a GP2x Wiz and a Pandora 1ghz. I use the pandora mainly as mini laptop and portable music player (and occasionally as game console), and the wiz as my primary handheld game console, as the colors are as good as on the original systems it emulates.

If the GCW would have had an AMOLED screen I'd go for that immediately and ditch the Wiz, as emulators aren't updated on the wiz anymore. Any chance for a GCW deluxe with AMOLED? :)

I got the GP2X and Pandora so don't really see the reason to buy this, im tempted since I like to thinker with but I gotta pass this month since summer is coming and I need to spend money on our new house first :/ All from tapestry work, completing my workshop in the garage, fixing the greenhouse to rebuilding the home network xD

Build quality on these IMHO is terrible, but the price is fine.  I've got one, rarely used.

No offense intended, but you're selling these at a higher price than they're available for from vendors online, might be hurting your possible sales...

Exchange rate is %&$#?@!%&$#?@!%&$#?@!%&$#?@! from dollars to euros. 150 euros is the retail price for a gcw zero in Europe. Dragonbox.de is 150 euros. Mine is 135.00 euros and I am not even breaking even.
No offense taken, its the lowest I can go. Got hit with 213.00 euros in custom fees.

But for Europeans $150 quickly turns into $200+ due to taxes and shipping costs.

(Edit) I did a quick check, shipping to Finland is $46, and on top of that I'd have to add around 20% tax. So 135e seems like a reasonable price.

I guess his deal is mostly for Europeans...while TG  is for us here.  Either way..cool little system to have for portable emulation.

159 or so UK price from Amazon and with Amazon Prime, free shipping with Prime.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/GCW-ZERO-Open-Source-Gaming-Console/dp/B00HVJAFGW

Hate to seemingly sandbag a fellow enthusiasts sales thread on A.org, but do your homework on these things before buying one from anywhere.  There's been a terrible number of people let down with the build quality of them.  I'm one of them, and I backed the Kickstarter program on these (and honestly regret doing so).

A fun little piece of kit, but do your homework and read reviews on them before buying.  I found the build quality on the one I got to be worse than a $90 Android tablet I bought awhile back, but YMMV.

I cannot compete with thinkgeek. I will be minus 0ver 300 euros when these have all been sold, so no profit whatsoever.

I looked into the JXD S7800b from   http://www.geekbuying.com/item/JXD-S7800-RK3188-1-6GHz-7-inch-Tablet-PC-GamePad-Android-4-2-Quad-Core-IPS-Capacitive-Touch-Screen-1280-800-2GB-8GB-318433.html  and after an hours research bought one too (16GB for$149.95).  If all else fails, I can surf and watch my Netflix with a decent grip on the device.

I keep getting messages asking if these are still for sale. It was 2014. All the consoles are long gone. I am unable to edit the first post in this thread to reflect this reality.
