Something better than sound recorder!!!
« on: October 14, 2007, 08:22:37 PM »
Hi everyone.

I want to convert my music mods to audio tracks and then burn them to cd. I've got NERO 6 on the PC so organising and burning the tracks will be no problem.

But... how do I get the audio files on the PC in the first place?? :-? All I can find is "sound recorder" and it's poor at best. PCM mono... sorry, but that's cr*p!! (AudioMaster IV on the Amiga blows that away, completely)

Help!!! (my fans are waiting... :-D )

Yeah I started off using sound recorder and clicking on the record button again after every 60 seconds. It worked but I ended up with music with jumps in it of course

I now use Quick Record which is practically the same thing but with continuous recording for as long as you like and in both mono or stereo  8-)

If you want to record from the Amiga's audio out, try Audacity. Open-source, multiplatform, lots of options.

Another solution might be to find a PC MOD player and play back to disk instead of an audio device. DeliPlayer? DeliTracker? Can't remember the precise name, but it's a PC version of an old Amiga MOD player. It might have disk-writing capabilities.

That sounds more like what I need! Where do I find Quick Record? Is it part of Windows XP or do I have to download it? (I'm guessing the second one!)

Audacity is indeed a very good option if it exists for windows.
By the way, you can select both the khz and stereo in the preferences of soundrecorder. It still stinks very much though..

I looked at the options for sound recorder and I couldn't see anything useful. But if it stinks anyway...

I'm just trying to find out where I got it from for you. It's not part of Windows as it was originally E-mailed to me and then I registered it. I was then sent Quick Record 2 FREE which allows you to record directly to MP3 as well as WAVE. I'll keep looking..........

EDIT - Well I've found the original E-mails in YAM of my A4000 from June 2001 :-D :-D :-D

It came from www.reg.net with a registration address of support@msaxon.com

However, it doesn't seem to be listed at www.reg.net anymore. Oh well! :pint:

Audacity does have a Windows version, and it's free. You can save as WAV, MP3 or OGG. However, a better solution would be to use a MOD player for Windows which supports exporting to WAV.

[EDIT]
Try ModPlug Player for converting from MOD to WAV.

What I want to do is connect the Amiga through the PC's line-in socket via a mixer to reduce the "hard left, hard right" stereo image and to EQ the music a bit. Spit and polish!

Just read the details of ModPlug player - it's got the option of EQ so I'll give that a go! Thanks!

Audacity can certainly record that, and can be used as an EQ as well. You will however get better quality if you export from MOV to WAV using ModPlug rather than recording through an analogue input.

[EDIT]
Just read your more recent post :-) I have tried the WAV export from ModPlug and can confirm it works, and sounds great.

1. open sound recorder

2. save as "blank" (with winxp you can change properties   while saving all the way up to 48khz stereo)

3. click on edit and insert file

4. insert "blank"

5. you now have a 120 second 48 khz stereo file

6. insert as many times as you need adding 1min each time.

7. save as "big blank"

8. use big blank to record big stuff and save as something else so that you always have the big blank whenever you need it

with windows 98you have to convert the files with audio properties in the edit drop menu iirc
Oh yeah?!?
Well your stupid bit is set,
and its read only!

@KThunder

Thanks. Found the options.. but why where they hidden until you needed to save a file?? I never would have thought of looking there or doing it that way in the first place.
