Yuck.

We need some enterprising individuals in the GNU community
to make a player/environment as good as macromedia's.

examples = scala, hollywood, iplay (whatever the case may be)
only make one that doesn't infringe the copyright/patents of others and is GPL'ed

Oh great!!  That's all we need is M$ taking over another very good cross-platform software.  They'll bastardize it, say that they invented it and that it's brand new, and make it run only on Win-DOHS.   Buncha crap!

you ever notice that virtually no apps that are free/open source are as good as the closed source alternative?.

I dont mean things like apache/etc... I mean apps like

2D IE:Paint/Vector Drawing/etc
3D IE:3D modelling/animateing/and renderers to go along with them.

Video IE:Paint/Roto/Edit/Comp/etc
DTP    IE:Quark Express/etc

I mean there is NOTHING that even comes close in the open source world to Scala ICD3, or NewTek Lightwave, or even close to Illustrator or Dreamweaver....there isnt... because there is no incentive to make any of that stuff...since there would be no money in doing so.

I think Linux may someday make it big as an OS...but the apps and ideals of open source suck...if they didnt suck they would have some good decent apps but they dont.. .Gimp is complete crap compared to Photoshop/Aura2/PSP/ Corel Draw or others......

"A Microsoft acquisition of Macromedia would inevitably see Flash, and Macromedia's other cross-platform tools, tailored purely for Windows and .NET. "

If this happens, I can see only IE being able to play Flash... or maybe I'm just paranoid about M$ taking over the world!   AAAARRRRrgggggghhhhh! :-o
