howdy all I just installed AB3D to my hard disk but it doesn't run anything from hard disk and always wants the floppies, maybe I'm running the wrong file or something?

It's probably worth using the WHDLoad installer instead, I believe it fixes some stuff, too.

Okay just wondered how long can you use WHDLoad for before it must be registered?

If someone helped me sort my cdrom out it'd be hella lot easier than using crossdos and floppies  :-P

Hum,
i vaguely remember that you had to copy the `installer script` onto your HD first (where you want the game to go) , then install from that.... - have a look at the readme files.

But it's no big deal, with the floppies, considering that you don't run any thing else  (i.e. load WB)  to keep the speed of the game up.

There is no readme, when you run the script it puts on the hard drive it asks for the floppies and just does the same thing again....

Perhaps it requires an Assign thats not happenning (?)

it always asks for disk 2, but provided the correct assigns are made to your hard disk, you can just press fire to continue.

if you install PatchAB3D from my website, you can make that request go away.

The game doesn't run from workbench directly. It should have installed a script (with an icon) that looks a bit like this when opened in a text editor:

assign AB3D1: ""
assign AB3D2: ""
ab3d

The assigns are essential, the game can't find some files without it and simply sits there.

If you dont have such a script, make one (I'm not 100% sure the exe is called ab3d, but you can check that), create an icon for it, setting the default tool as C:IconX (or telling it to run from shell if you have OS3.5/3.9) and everything should be hunky dory.

Installing with W3DLoad also should ensure error free operation (although I have had it crash on me).

Used the WHDLoad installer for AB3D1 last night (well, early morning :-D), works under UAE ok, though it locked up on exit.

Naturally you need the original disks for this to work!  I cheated, installed it to my A3000 (the installer doesn't know I'm missing AGA!), then copied it right over to the laptop using FTP.

If I get motivated I think I'll do this for all my favourites, put 'em onto CD, then the disks can be wrapped safely and stashed in the attic :-)

I don't think WHDLoad has a time limit, though someone can correct me if I am mistaken.

However, until you register, you will have to put up with the annoying wait whilst it tells you about how to avoid an annoying wait if you'd just register. Of course, like all these things, that requires you paying cash. I use WHDLoad on exactly 2 games, and I hardly play them, so I'm good to wait for a bit. (Gives me time to use the toilet before I get comfortable anyway)

It's not that expensive.  I think it has an additional restriction that every once in a while you have to do a cold reset, too.

Not that I'd know 'cause I registered it :-D (I do have piles of games that can be installed with it)

Yeah, but then if I'd forgotten to use the toilet before I double clicked the game icon, I wouldn't have time to go before the game loaded, and might miss a valuable loading screen or summat :lol:
