Amiga A2000 - Is there any new 060s that are available?
« on: July 12, 2022, 03:55:22 PM »
Hi

As me other post, I have got my A2000 back up and running, I have a TF1260 on my A1200 and its all I really need. Is there something for the A2000 that I am missing?

From the title of your thread you're missing a Motorola 68060 CPU!  ;D

Maybe I should have been more clear, is there any "NEW" accelerator cards for the A2000 that have the 060 processor?  :P

The TerribeFire2040/60 will come out, but i guess it will be next year by then, as the TF360rev3 and the TF4060 need most current attention.

Hi

That's great, I might get the TF536 for just now then swap it over to my A500 once the A2000 unit comes out.

Or Firebird, there is too much choice for my 32 year old computer  ;D

Thanks

While you're at it, have a go at turning your Scirocco  into a Delorean! ;)

You can not knock an good old 2000 Big D, it may have a slow buss but if you unload it with fast memory on the Accelerator you can put a graphics card and it's pretty good! I had a Tekmagic in my 2000 until the card died, now it's back on the Gforce 030. Need a Vampire!

Yeah, with all those Zorro slots, its what is keeping me away from the Vampire / Firebird as I would like to fill them with a graphics card, memory card and stuff, or I might as well have kept my A500 ( I lie, I have always wanted a big box amiga, although I could only afford a A1500  ;D ).

Also, its such a cool looking machine with the key board and 1084st monitor on top!

Hi Chris

If I was to go firebird my plan was to use a CPU to Zorro re-locator into the CPU slot. Will the Fireboard cause issues with the Zorro bus?

Guunar says many have been tested, should not be a problem but not all cards can be tested because there are just too many of them.

Thanks Chris, I has ordered a TF536 so fingers crossed, but if it causes an issue I will just have to use it in my old A500!  ;D

Hi Mechy

Looks good, I think I did see it, But at 500 EURO without a CPU and you have to use the full 68060 it get a bit too expensive.

The TF536 is due today so look forward to fitting it and giving it a go!

Do you really need a 68060 processor in your Amiga 2000, or is this just to boost your stupid ego?  I do not know of any Amiga software that requires a 68060 processor.  About 90% of all software for the Amiga computers was programmed and sold between 1985 to 1990.  The ECS and Kickstart / Workbench 2.04 was released around the middle of 1990.  So, what do these facts tell us?  They tell us that 90% of all Amiga software runs the best on the OCS, a 68000 processor, Kickstart 1.2 / 1.3, and Workbench 1.2 / 1.3.
