Diablo1
« on: October 12, 2022, 03:47:29 PM »
Hi guys,

I am currently trying to play Diablo1 again. I had this on PC, but gave it away. Now, so many years later, I really want to play this once more. But I would love to play it on my Amiga. I do seem to remember that there was an Amiga version for Diablo 1. Any idea on how I could get it installed and play it?

Thanks

Pike

Hi there,

If you want to run it on classic Amiga, you can download DevilutionX on Aminet:

http://aminet.net/package/game/actio/DevilutionX

The readme includes a link to a shareware version of Diablo, which can be used to try the game. The full version can be purchased on GOG (Good Old Games):

https://www.gog.com/game/diablo

DevilutionX is also on AmigaOS 4, MorphOS and AROS if I remember correctly.

Hope this was of help. :-)

Bump.

Has anyone had success with this? I could never get any of the Amiga ports of DevilutionX to work.

@Matt_H

I tried it on my Sam460ex and found it was too slow.

How far were you getting. I remember the docs saying that one particular file had to be there but I found it wasn't enough. If you can't even start, I can recheck my installation and see what it was missing.

Thanks, Steady. It would crash/hang immediately after starting (black screen).

I just took a look.

I needed the following files in the diablo home directory:
* devilutionx.mpq
* DIABDAT.MPQ

devilutionx (the application) and diablo.ini were already installed by original download, so in total there were 4 files. I also have MANUAL.PDF but I doubt that matters.

Even so, it was too slow to play for some reason. Maybe I need to tweak settings in diablo.ini. Not sure. I am running on SAM460cr.

Is Devilutionx even compiled for PPC? if not i'd assume it runs emulated on your Sam.

Thanks for your report - I might have been missing devilutionx.mpq. Will look into it again :)

Hi.  I am trying to eventually place this on an A1200 but trying to first install on a CF card in WinUAE.  I copied the LHA contents over to my games folder and copied the diabdat.mpq file to the folder.  When I double click the DevilutionX.exe file I get a "SDL Error" and "no available video device".

I looked at installed this:   http://aminet.net/package/dev/misc/SDL-Amiga

but do I need to compile the library?  It seems like there may be an easier way to get this working.

I don't know if it is compiled for PPC. I will check the executable.

FYI, for me it all seems fine until I move the mouse (kinda essential) and then everything slows to an unplayable 3FPS including the mouse movement. I just don't know why it is such a specific issue for me. I see others showing the game running on a SAM with no issues. Strange.

There is an AmigaOS 4.1 port available for download at OS4Depot:

http://os4depot.net/?function=showfile&file=game/roleplaying/devilutionx.lha

This should run very well on the Sam460. :)
