The idea that the similar architecture will usher in an era of Console/PC parity is bull****.

The architectural differences between PC and console are still there, for example a single unified address space is a bigger difference than x86 vs ARM/PowerPC.

We just abstract most architectural stuff away away with libraries and wrappers.

A unified address space however changes the way you create, access and manage data though.

Then they're ignoring the performance differences from having a fixed target with fixed resources compared to the efforts you put into supporting different vendors GPUs, various CPUs, amounts of ram AND that on PC you're running an OS and other programs at the same time.

Then there's the API/SDK used for the console compared to that of the PC.

No, the architecture (x86/PPC/etc) is just a tiny tiny part of it and honestly that fact that it's x86 vs PowerPC is a vanishingly minor difference.

It means nothing for PC gaming.

Game coders use these things called "compilers" that output code for whatever CPU the game coder wants.  Maybe someone should tell the article write about these things. :D

Also game coders on Windoze typically use Direct X.  Do they have Direct X on Nintendo?  Do they have Direct X on PS3?  On PS4?

That "thing" I just read is an advertisement for AMD Inc. masquerading as something pretending to be an "article".

I recently watched some fake documentaries on National Geographic that were the same sort of thing.  They were purely paid corporate advertisement infomercials pretending to be a documentary.  Sad.
