Carrier Command & Starglider musician on Kickstarter
« on: March 08, 2015, 01:28:59 PM »
David Lowe aka Uncle Art is remaking his Amiga/Atari/C64 music as a studio album.

Remember StarGlider? Or Carrier Command? Remember the cassette tape that came with them? Beneath a Steel Sky? His Amiga version of Rob Hubbards IK+?

He's a thoroughly nice guy I have had the pleasure of knowing and this album is going to be epic! An amazing blend of old a new.

Get backing.

Dave and his daughter Holly did an interview with TheyWereOurGods blog

Check it out

Or take a look at his credits on Exotica or Wikipedia if you don't know which games he composed for.

Gosh, I feel like a failure of an Amigan for saying this, but: the only work of his that I've heard is Railroad Tycoon, Frontier, and Beneath a Steel Sky. Never played any of the other games.

That being said, all are phenomenal. It's only since the ScummVM era that I learned that the tracks on the PC version of Steel Sky are actually longer (I'm guessing due to assumed lack of RAM in Amigas circa 1994), but the orchestrations on the Amiga version are so vastly superior, even compared against top-tier modern MIDI renditions. I still find myself humming bits of those tunes on a regular basis. I wonder if he has "complete" versions of the Amiga tracks in his archive somewhere?

Backed...

Sadly though since starting this project some of the sources - hard disk in an Amiga, couple of actual Atari STs and some original recording tapes - have died so they've had to modify a few of the tracks and a teeny bit of the project as orginally planned :(.

Going to miss the Starglider ones!

I'm still going to back this though. I loved all the works mentioned in the project and from the feedback they seem like really good people.

Following the problems with source materials, the original version of this Kickstarter project has been CLOSED.  Your money will not be taken.

Uncle Art and Holly have opened this new project instead:

Hope all you other backers spot this and move over in time!  Can't wait to hear the results.

Hey YOU guys!

This project ends today. They made it to almost 500 backers, and only 8k left to find.

A message from Dave Lowe

Quote
Let’s all give it a final push and share in its last hours to pull in those extra pledges to get that Orchestra in Abbey Road. We are now looking at putting the remade Elite II Orchestral theme out as a single for the classical charts as there has been positive talk about plays from Classical FM. Now how cool would that be. We would all be responsible for a no. 1 Chart record, what more incentive could there be. Tweet them on the beaches, Tweet them in the fields, Tweet them in the streets, we will never give in......

Dave.
