Yes, absolutely. Your amiga cannot tell this isn't a 30 year old SCSI hard drive =] If your SCSI controller is bootable, you're good.

so if I plug this into the side of my Amiga 1000 and use kick1.3 I can autoboot directly into workbench and it'll pick up the extra memory and scsi controller in the attached side cars??

WHUT?  You don't plug the SCSI2SD into the side of your A1000, you have to first have a SCSI controller that's compatible with your A1000, then you plug the SCSI2SD into that.  All it is is a modern replacement for a hard drive, not a miracle product.  ;)

:roflmao:guilty as charged asking for miracles I suppose:biglaugh:

So I can get this as a replacement for my 20 lb original 20MB scsi hard drive then which is working great with my scsi controller and 2 ram expansion side cars right

Yes, SCSI controller required, though :)

ah cool so just have to plug unit into my scsi controller, and I can boot up to WB 1.3.  (Of course I have to backup all the stuff on my old scsi back onto the SD card)

Check the documentation for your SCSI controller.  Many (most) A1000 SCSI controllers aren't going to support 4GB disks.  You'd probably be fine to save yourself the $20 bucks and get the 256MB model, which is still going to be a big jump up from 20MB; unless you have one of the rare A1000 SCSI controllers that can support such large disks.  ;)

hmm I'm pretty sure there'll be a way I can partition the drive to smaller units that WB1.3 can use.  Worse case I can boot into 3.1 but prefer 1.3 for my A1000.  I personally love the sound of the old 'real' drives but I'm gonna get me one of these silent thingies in case the old girl retires one of these years

I wouldn't mind one but shipping + import charges are almost as much as the card itself thank's to Ebay's Global Shipping Program :(

Anyway that I can get the $5 discount if I buy a 2nd one this week?

That's where I got mine from. There's an important note on the developer's website that the firmware shipped with those boards is defective and needs to be updated. Also, they apparently used a conductive "QC Passed" sticker which should be removed.

Matt,

I plan to remove QC sticker and upgrade the firmware in my SCSI2SD.
Thanks for the info.

That only applies to boards purchased from ITEAD studio. The boards you get from me include the latest (4.4, as of today) firmware. There is also no need to remove the QC sticker on these boards.

@ aperez

Worthwhile clarification, thanks.

@ thread

Another thing to note about these boards is that you can use the firmware to set a fake size for the drive. In other words, if you have an 8GB CF card and a system that can only handle 4GB (or less), just change a setting in the firmware and the unit will present itself to your SCSI host as whatever you set it to, whether that's 4GB or 4MB.

Looks like this will work just fine on my A2000 w/GVP '030/SCSI card though. I guess it's finally time to upgrade.......
A2000 GVP 40MHz \'030, 21Mb RAM SD/FF, 2 floppies, internal CD-ROM drive, micromys v3 w/laser mouse
A1000 Microbotics Starboard II w/2Mb 1080, & external floppy (AIRdrive)

One silly question.

How do you set the SCSI id on these?  I don't see the classic jumpers.
