so if I plug this into the side of my Amiga 1000 and use kick1.3 I can autoboot directly into workbench and it'll pick up the extra memory and scsi controller in the attached side cars??

WHUT?  You don't plug the SCSI2SD into the side of your A1000, you have to first have a SCSI controller that's compatible with your A1000, then you plug the SCSI2SD into that.  All it is is a modern replacement for a hard drive, not a miracle product.

ah cool so just have to plug unit into my scsi controller, and I can boot up to WB 1.3.  (Of course I have to backup all the stuff on my old scsi back onto the SD card)

Check the documentation for your SCSI controller.  Many (most) A1000 SCSI controllers aren't going to support 4GB disks.  You'd probably be fine to save yourself the $20 bucks and get the 256MB model, which is still going to be a big jump up from 20MB; unless you have one of the rare A1000 SCSI controllers that can support such large disks.
