Interesting. But what would really set us apart is an easter banner. I am thinking a phycopathic easter bunny. Franko get to it! :roflmao:

phyco-
combining form
relating to seaweed : phycology.
-pathy
combining form
1 denoting feelings : telepathy.
2 denoting disorder in a particular part of the body : neuropathy.
3 relating to curative treatment of a specified kind : hydropathy.
Therefore phycopathy = diseased seaweed :)

And an 's' ;) Mind you, I think a phycopathic easter bunny would be much more original than a psychopathic one :D

I'm sure the current owners would be fine with it*, but messing around with the contents of server for the purposes of anything other than fire fighting may not be looked on too kindly.
*and as soon as they indicate that they are, I'll do it :)

@All
Coward
Look, I realise this is jut a bit of harmless goading, but in a rare moment of seriousness, I'll explain why:
Cowardice is not the issue, respect for the owners is. When real problems have arisen, I've waded straight in to fix them without asking and waiting for permission since it's understood by all that the sooner they are fixed, the better. I don't own the site; the past and present owners have placed a significant amount of trust in the fact that I only access the server when something really is wrong and needs fixing and not to make arbitrary changes (no matter how harmless) for fun.
If you paid 10K for a site, would you be happy with unauthorised changes to it's branding by one of the site members?
-
@Karlos - of course that is all understood. I for one was just winding you up
-

I realise that, but perhaps not everybody understands the reason :)
-
@ Karlos
I've just removed me foot from my mouth for a second to say , sorry mate I wasn't really expecting anyone to take this thread seriously, I thought that some folk would put up their own versions of the logo that they had made up or A.org would be putting up it's own xmas logo (not sure if they do usually)...
Anyway apologies for causing you such strife and I'm just re-inserting my foot back in me big gob again... :)

@Franko
I don't think he was referring to you - just attempting to evade another row about the site ;)

It's a Christmas pudding.

It's a Christmas pudding.
AKA, the "black hole" pudding. Whilst not actually dense enough to become a singularity, anybody that's ever eaten a vintage xmas pud will tell you they are at least dense enough to reach fruit-degeneracy.
Quite why it's considered a good idea to eat those things after a large dinner, I have no idea. They may be tasty, but they wipe you out.
-
Oh My Gawd it's real :
I want to try haggis, but I'm not going anywhere near this. Really who made this up, the Gremlins?

Clearly you're not eating strategically. I always save space for Christmas pud :)

Note the blue glow on the right hand edge. This is Cherenkov radiation caused by particles escaping the degenerate matter at speeds above the speed of light in air.

Actually they're delicious. Stodgy, fruity, sweet and absolutely lovely with a bit of custard. Can't beat it!

I tend not to have them nowadays as all the good ones tend to be made with animal suet and enough booze for them to be considered dual use (the second use being as incendiary ammo for siege catapults).
-

True on all counts. My mum used to make them (and xmas cakes) often months in advance. They'd probably put you over the limit just after one mouthful
-
You know something about Christmas Puds guys...
A little kno
I'ts true cos me old grannie used to swear by it... :)

Is that a halal thing, or just personal preference?

Blimey, castle-smashing density? Methinks a recipe revision is needed...

Ere... happened to me post !!! most of it's missing...
What I was saying was a little know fact about traditional christmas puddings is...
They should really be made using an old Simmit (that's a Vest to the rest of you). The pudding once made should be wrapped tightly in the old vest and left for at least 7 days in a dark cupboard, this is the same way traditional Scottish dumplings are made which are very similar to Xmas puds, just without the alchohol content... :)
Don't forget to wash the vest before giving it back to grandad though... :)
-
Ok... which one of you lot just called the number in my avatar !!!
All I heard was some heavy breathing and a giggle at the end of it, c'mon own up... :nervous:
-
Is that really your phone number Franko?
-

Yup... I forgot to change it when I was making the new avatar...
Better get to work and create a new one before I get another heavy breather...
-
*and as soon as they indicate that they are, I'll do it :)
Refresh your browsers...
I had to edit the right hand side of the image slightly because creating a repeating snow tile for the rest of the banner went into the borders and I wasn't going to play around changing the site layout for it ;)
-
Wow... Cheers Karlos & all at Amiga.org... :)
I only started this thread out to see if other folk would come up a better effort than mine, if I'd known it was going to be taken seriously I'd have done a better job, anyway thanks once again for giving the site a little touch of christmas joy... :)
-
I thought it was a nice enough idea, it's just that it wasn't up to me.
-
Looks very nice. Good job.
-
looks nice,
that whole pudding bit reminds me of a pudding my aunt's used to make when I was a kids. All us kids loved it, but the men steered clear, then they finally told us what was in it.

Too Northern Hemisphere centric. You need a surfing Santa to represent those in the south!

What the hell is that? I thought fruitcake was bad.

It is. All the websites lie about how many people are in the southern hemisphere to keep northerners out, otherwise we'd be swamped.

Someone paid $10000 for this website? That's incredible and ironic that it's probably worth more than Amiga.inc itself.
@Franko thanks for the Aussie banner :)
@everyone the christmas banner reminds me of christmas lemmings!

It's too bad Karlos is prejudiced against the south.

You had your chance, but you waited until the Northern hemisphere centric banner was already up before you started complaining :p
Typical whingeing bloody antipodean-pom-analogue...

Well, I didn't want to modify any of the markup so I just replaced the image, so caches need to update before it becomes visible ;)

All part of the great northern conspiracy (tm). Look at the hole in the ozone layer, it's in the south, who caused it? The north...

Fire on the hemisphere below!

To be fair, it did snow in the Southern Alps at Midsummer and temperatures are well bellow normal, so....
Dreaming of a white Christmas? Then head for the hills (http://www.smh.com.au/victoria/dreaming-of-a-white-christmas-then-head-for-the-hills-20101219-191xi.html)

Hey, if we hadn't gone to the trouble of making that lovely big hole in the ozone layer, then your precious hemisphere probably wouldn't be as hot as it is and you wouldn't be able to gloat about barbecues for Christmas.
You're welcome.
