Have you ordered the C64x?
« on: April 05, 2011, 09:02:51 PM »
I was wondering how many people have already pre-ordered the C64x today or
is planning too very soon.

Gee, let's see. If I wanted a PC in a C64 case, I could gut a broken C64 and install one of many inexpensive and tiny motherboards in it, and then install Linux and VICE on it...or I could pay CUSA to do the same thing and help fund whatever it is they're going to do to the Amiga name next. GEE I WONDER WHICH I'D PREFER.
Computers: Amiga 1200, DEC VAXStation 4000/60, DEC MicroPDP-11/73
Synthesizers: Roland JX-10/MT-32/D-10, Oberheim Matrix-6, Yamaha DX7/FB-01, Korg MS-20 Mini, Ensoniq Mirage/SQ-80, Sequential Circuits Prophet-600, Hohner String Performer

If you can do something yourself then it's usually cheaper than paying someone else to do it.

Personally, as I've said before. I'm gutting an A500, A600 or A1200 and using that case. There's already keyboard adapters for that.

I'm going to wait for the PETx:

A fricking muddatrucker of a case, big enough to hide a body in with a tiny green-screen monitor ontop and a tiny PC mobo running Linsuxs & VICE inside.  Another winner!
A2000, A3000, 2 x A1200T, A1200, A4000Tower & Mediator, CD32, VIC-20, C64, C128, C128D, PET 8032, Minimig & ARM, C-One, FPGA Arcade... and AmigaOne X1000.

No. I had one 7 or 8 years ago.  Well, not an actual C64x, because they didn't exist, but a Mini-ITX motherboard from Via in a Vic-20 case from eBay which is basically the same thing.  £150 and 2 evenings work with  a Dremel.  I played SNES games on it in zSNES.  Then the novelty wore off, I realised how impractical it was and sold it.

No option to pick I'll get one when Jack Tramiel gets one. CUSA should just give Jack one, would be good karma and PR.

He's probably worried about tripping on such bulky doorstops and will stick with the old Sinclair ZX81.....convenient wedge shape too ;)

I'd love to see C-USA send one of these to a major review site for a formal review (Engadget or Gizmodo type sites).   If they are as stunning of a machine as people claim they are, it'd be a shot in the arm for the corporation.  What are the details on the emulation software that "ships at a later date"?  All I can dig up on their website is:    Units come with the Ubuntu 10.04 LTS operating system on disk ready to install.  Commodore OS 1.0, along with emulation functionality and classic game package, will be mailed to purchasers when available.
