Everytime I see an iPad all I can think of is those gigantic television remotes they sell at drugstores. Giant iPod anyway?

Apple consistently delivers solid products, but there's usually a better alternative if you're willing to seek it out.
The iPad seems to be the only worthwhile tablet atm, though, although RIM's PlayBook is shaping up to be a worthy competitor.

the iPad seems to bulky for me to enjoy..I mean if it can't fit easily into a pocket then it's just too much a hassle for me to lug around all day....if I have to lug around that pad thing I'd rather have a full featured notebook with proper keyboard

Somebody I work with takes great delight in going into the Apple store in Cardiff and leaving all the iPhones and iPads on porn sites an the relocking then :)

Certainly not a one size fits all product. Does it come with a lot of free apps? That would sweeten the deal. Other than that technology is moving so fast, if I hold out another two years the bells and whistles on pocket sized gadgets will have doubled... and the price halved.

A good tinkerer is not hampered by such trivial things as there's always workarounds ;-)

Do you mean like "jail breaking"? :) yeah I've done that.  It's better but it's not a great workaround, and at the end of the day I don't want to be made to feel guilty about wanting to tinker and customise.  I want that behaviour to be actively promoted.

I take it as an insult to my intelligence that Apple restrict what I can and can't do with the product.  It's as if they view their customers as idiots.  The general user probably doesn't care about that, but for someone like me it's a total insult.

And that's why I hate Apple.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I really HATE iTunes with a passion. iTunes must be the most infuriating application ever written.

I too think iTunes is one of the worst pieces of software I've had the misfortune to ever come across. If you simply want to listen to some MP3's then it's far less hassle to have your MP3 player hooked up to an amp than it is just to get iTunes to do anything. Id better not even mention what I think of iDVD & iMovie as it will surely only offend... :)

What? You can totally customize a Mac computer, just that their "appliance" bits (ie: little hand held toys) need to be broken is all. A good tinkerer is not hampered by such trivial things as there's always workarounds ;-)

Sorry but I consider myself an expert tinkerer, but when it comes to my iMac G4 be it hardware or software their just isn't the scope to tinker with the ruddy things. Not to mention the never ending 'application not responding' and 'application unexpectedly quit' crap you've got to put up with. Apple stuff may look cool but that's about it... :)

(5 months of using an iMac is enough to convince me never to buy another Apple product... :( )

Hey Franko,

That's why you want a G4 Mac that is MorphOS compatible.
Before Powermac support was introduced for MOS, I slow convinced the G4 was a dreadfully underpowered CPU. Actually, OSX is just really resource intensive.
All the video formats that would stutter or not run work perfectly under MorpHOS.
I'm looking forward to finding an upgrade for my 933 Ghz G4, but right now my system performs SO much better since I ditched OSX (yes I actually removed OSX from the system).

Not really, it doesn't do anything you can't do on a P3 800mhz Tablet PC, and it can't do anything Flash based on the internet (I kid you not) so kind of something for Apple fan boys in my book. Especially with the RRP in the UK. Also it can not do HD movies/TV either.

I'll spend my money on a classic car for my collection and use an old grubby Fuji Tablet PC :)

As for trying to educate people about Amiga, careful b00tdisk will be on your case and putting his size 4s in his mouth again

You aren't going to walk into Best Buy and find a better tablet than the iPad, which is more to the point.
Personally, I have little use for tablets of any sort, since most of what I do on a computer requires either a keyboard or a joystick, but for some people, it's exactly what they want, or so Apple has led them to believe.
