So I picked up a tablet for very cheap ($140), an Asus SL-101, 10.1" display, bluetooth, running Android 4.0.3. I bought it for reading programming stuff, PDFs, email, managing servers, retro gaming and all that nerd stuff. One of the biggest reasons was that it was powerful enough to play "Amiga 500" type games.
One of the cool things about it is that this has a built in USB port and a slide away keyboard. Speed wise, its perfect to take to the coffee shop, ssh into servers to do work, some RDP type stuff assuming the connection is fast. Internet browsing is great, Adobe Flash works.
Drawbacks, mono speaker (just 1 speaker), so its not super loud, so bring headphones.
Retro gaming..
I am using UAE4Droid and USB/BT joystick. The latter is required to use USB joysticks under Android. It makes it "somewhat easier" to use one if its automatically recognized and has a driver for it, otherwise you have to make your own driver and its confusing. Right now I'm using a XBOX 360 wired controller and it works out of the box.
UAE4Droid, to use a joystick with it, you'll have to map the fire button and movement keys in the app, but its very simple.
Speed wise under UAE4Droid, it works at about the speed of an Amiga 500. Some games are too fast like Sidewinder. If you want to play a game that requires a mouse like StarGlider II, its a no go. The tablet recognizes the mouse but I cant get it to work under UAE4Droid, its as if its not available under emulation to the app. Sound emulation is almost exact. I havent had any noticeable games that sound different than original, but I've only tried about 5 or so. If you have a specific game you want me to try, just reply. If I have it (I might), just lmk in the thread.
Graphics quality are the same as an Amiga 500. Sometimes, like in Strider, I might see an artifact.
I have Frodo on it, so that'll be the next thing I play with. It has way more than enough power for C64 games.
Here's a pic of a Strider and Magic Pockets running on it:
