Getting a new GSM....only which one....
« on: April 05, 2004, 12:38:23 PM »
My current Siemens M35i's (second) battery is as good as dead, so it's time for me to get a new phone. Currently I'm thinking of getting either a Philips Fisio 825 or the Philips Xenium 9@9++ (has to be the world's lamest named phone....).

Any opinions on either phone? The 825 is included 'free' with a subscription and the Xenium costs an additional 37EUR.

Fisio 825

Xenium 9@9++

Simple, but functional.
Great audio quality, and battery time!

Simplicity is key with cellphones, for me at least. My phone's a tool and nothing more. I couldn't believe it when my sister's Sony suddenly spat out, "Software error, please restart."

:lol:

Yes, indeed!
It reminds me of that movie, spy kids, or whatever it is called.
"This watch has a built-in TV, cell phone, swiss army knife, computer, digital camera, holographic projector, GPS-navigator etc."
"Cool! How do I see what time it is?"
"Uhh, there wasn't enough room for that!"

Ah yes, bakelite (sp?) phones. I want one, unfortunately on ebay they fetch quite high prices, perhaps I should visit some fleamarkets.

Anyway, I also want a phone that makes noise when someone calls me, one that allows me to make calls, isn't to big, has no external antenna (very annoying when it pokes in my private parts when I have the phone in my pocket ;-)), has a readable screen and good batterylife.

Don't give me any of that polyphonic, camera or other crap. The Fisio825 was interesting cos they were giving a free Bluetooth headset with it, but that offer expired. So I probably will not be getting that one.

The Xenium is however exactly what a want, a no fuss phone with a stupendisly (sp?) long battery life. According to one  review :

"According to the statement of the manufacturer it provides up to 750 hours in standby mode and up to 7.5 hours in talk mode. In conditions of Moscow MTS network the device has worked 8 day at 50 minutes of talks and about 35 minutes of other functions using."

@whabang:

Unfortunately the shop I'm eyeing to buy a phone from doesn't sell the M50. They have a host of other Siemens though.

;-) I remember those.  The phones in my home now are all newer, but the one in the picture brings back memories.  I recall that one can adjust the ring volume with a small slider on the bottom, at the back.  For the wall version, it was at the bottom.

I guess so ;-). I didn't want a Nokia, too much people already have a Nokia. And I'm under the impression you pay too much for the name with that brand. I was considering Siemens phones though (I was very happy with my old Siemens, had it for 3 years or something).
