Suggestion: can we get these Commodore BOOPSI classes to become part of the official OS distribution?

Yes, more BOOPSI please. Greatly preferred over ReAction.

* Is L:System-Startup a text file with paths to all the modules you wish to load?
Nope. It's a new system component. A quite interesting one that has been factored out of the dos.library and that is approximately the equivalent of the "unix init process". It is responsible for mounting devices and starting the initial shell. And also for something new, namely replacing ROM components without a reboot. Essentially, everything "from intuition upwards" can be replaced by a corresponding module on disk, provided its version is larger than the disk version. This means that in case we need to update some of them, we just ship the file. Actually, I hope that if we get a 3.2 ROM, it will be the last ROM that requires shipping as a lot of its contents can now be exchanged by System-startup. As said, no reboot necessary.

Awesome! Eventually, once you're essentially replacing everything i'd prefer a new ROM. Hmmm.... would this feature also mean we're no longer limited to available addressing space of the ROM's?

So far, most of what i see is geared towards hard core shell users, which the average person is not.

More BOOPSI would help developers.

Most of todays users need:
Networking to exchange files with the internet and their PCs. (a big project)
Built in lha and zip support to handle file archives once transfered.
Easy GUI methods to launch favorite applications/games/demos.
...hmmm, gotta be more but i'm sleep deprived at the moment.

Hm, if the pic shows the real preferences, than it looks like one can add own 'variables/numbers' to the WB screen title, as the 'update' suggests...  ???

I would just use some static text and set the update frequency to "0".
Please have "0" effectively shut the system off and save resources.

@Matt_H
So it is a long road ahead. But I am sure we can probably solve this quite easily (and this is my own speculation here), just by installing as default, gadtools based prefs, tools and utilities and ask in the Installer script if the user wants to ReActionize its installation, with all that it implies and if agreed then overwrite existing prefs, tools and utilities with ReAction based counterparts.

Having two systems = BLOAT. Not the Amiga way of doing things. Stick with GadTools/BOOPSI.

That’s a good suggestion; I‘ll consider it. Note that you‘ll lose display of available memory, if you activate such an option.

You guys are all developers, which we need, but you also have to think like a regular user that's just trying to run a WHDLoad game or play some music.
A regular user doesn't care how many bytes of RAM are available or what version something is.

Feature suggestion:
Again, i'm trying to see things from a regular users perspective.

Update CPU command to recognize the Vampire 68080.
Have OS installer give user option to install any needed 030, 040, 060,  MMU library or recommend they install the one that came with their accelerator card.

The average user isn't going to understand what CPU errrata is or what to do about it.
If you don't have the rights to any appropriate libraries anything you can do to help users understand is helpful.

Can we stop the childish bickering now.

I'd like to get back to reading about AOS 3.2. Thanks
