I have an IPad. The main plus of it is the long standby time and the semi-instant on feature. It's a handy little device, but its main drawback is the incredibly shit built-in browser and general lack of speed. Loading up a webpage with a lot of images takes ages. Oh and not being able to use it as a Mass Storage Device. Oh and the shitty Apple OS. Oh and the shitty Apple software needed on the PC side. Oh and the fact that it only gets useful after having been jailbroken. At least on a touchscreen this size I can actually type. Touchscreens on telephones I can not type on.

Perhaps try a different browser? Opera I know is available for it, I'd be surprised if you couldn't get firefox or some other gecko based browser for it too.

Opera. Say whatever you like about the Windows/Linux versions, but the mobile and mini versions are simply amazing.

Well on my 701, Opera is the only browser I've found that'll run at an acceptable pace. I can't imagine that the Mini/Mobile versions would be slower than the full version I use on kubuntu given the relative specs.

Hmm, looks like Firefox mobile is Android only.

I had been going around with an el-cheapo $99 Android tablet from the local pharmacy and a separate Android phone, but when the phone started to show its age I went with one of these: http://www.dell.com/us/p/mobile-streak/pd?refid=mobile-streak&s=dhs&cs=19

Still small enough (just barely) to fit into a pants pocket comfortably, and so much more usable than the smaller-screened phone I had been using.  Also, much faster than the cheap tablet, so I've replaced two devices with one.

edit: Firefox Mobile isn't all that great, the Operas and Dolphin Browsers are better in my opinion.

That's a nice compromise in terms of size.

I've got an early version of Dolphin on my Samsung phone, it's nice, displays everything perfectly, sadly the phone isn't 3g, so it does take a while to load everything.

I've got an iPhone, 2 iPads, 3 iPods and a couple Chinese Android tablets.  Running Froyo you still can't stick your apps on a memory card unless the original author allows you.  It sucks.

That's why you buy a tablet with a nice big internal storage!

Seriously though, unless an app has a crazy amount of data most of them are tiny.  I had a bunch of stuff installed onto a microSD card in my old phone and at one point had to remove the card, somehow it ended up breaking a bunch of shortcuts I'd created.  Better to stay internal if possible, I think, unless you're looking at games with 100mb of data and want to install to microSD anyway.

I have an iPad 1 with 64 gig. I take it with me to work and places where its not possible, or inconvenient, to use a laptop. I like it for its convenience and portability.
