Gameboy Classic question
« on: October 31, 2006, 08:08:17 AM »
Does anyone know if there's something like a converter for memory cards (e.g. compact flash) to the Gameboy classic cartridge? That would save me from buying loads of old cartridges for way too much money.

I've been looking for info on the Gameboy but all I can find are sites about the newer generations Gameboy.

Why would that save you from buying more cartridges?

Okay, skip that piracy-involving last phrase (I should have known on this site).

Re-phrased question: is there a converter from a memory card (like compact flash) to Gameboy cartridge format?

I've seen backup devices for the Gameboy back in the days, but IIRC, it had a floppy drive and it's own power supply. It was external, of course.

Flash cartridges for the original Gameboy were available since day 1, but not very wide spread until the Gameboy Color was released.  Finding one now would be difficult (but not impossible).  Here's a page with information on some of the commercial products and some home made carts.  http://www.reinerziegler.de/readplus.htm
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

I found that site myself as well. I guess I'll just E-mail this guy - maybe he knows where to get one of those cartridge writers (or he has one he wants to part with).

And maybe I will try to program something myself for the Gameboy. I looked at some game code and I don't think it will be much of a problem to code a little Arkanoid clone for the Gameboy...
