AEROS public demo on Amiganoid 2011
« on: August 31, 2011, 08:45:19 PM »
Actually i am working on a new distribution called AEROS mainly for AresOne and EfikaMX.

AEROS is what OS X is compared to Mac OS 9.... yeah sort of : )

AEROS is based on Linux (under the hood) and AROS hosted
It comes NOT with an Linux desktop environment like Gnome or KDE...
AROS/Broadway will be your desktop environment.

So if needed you can always launch a Linux app. You can also run a majority of Windows apps using Wine. You can use all existing AROS apps and you can run all existing AmigaOS 3.x apps.

In other words... if you don't look for the LInux side you won't realize that there is running Linux in the background.

Since AEROS doesn't come with a bloated desktop environment like Gnome or KDE it will be much faster than a ordinary Linux-distribution especially faster as Ubuntu : ).
Actually it will be the fastest "desktop" experience for any ARM based system.

The first public demo of the x86 and ARM version will be on the Amiganoid Event in Essen.
A closed beta phase will be started straight after the Event.

Please have a look at the new AROS bounty accepted by Krzysztof Śmiechowicz
OpenGL Wrapper Bounty

This will bring full 3D Support on every HW which has an 3D driver for Linux....
It's time for an revolution ; )

The last bugs are gone... so lx command works now without a glitch  ; )

Remember:
AresOne did it first : p

BTW:
This is not the End of Broadway.... Broadway has reached internally 0.7 (last public release was 0.0.5).... i am waiting for EMULA (comes also for AmigaOS3/4 and MOS)... as soon this is done i will release also a new native Version later this year with big changes.
In the meantime you can enjoy IcAROS.

AEROS is also done for ARM because i hope for a sub 100€ Ares2-platform : ) with AMC and Emula.

Oh ARM version is supported with Hardware by Genesi (big thanks from here)

OOOHHHHH!!!!!! Krzysztof Śmiechowicz's OpenGL wrapper will be shown too : ) This is a big thing for everyone! With this wrapper everyone can enjoy 3D acceleration with AROS hosted!!! So please please consider a donation.

I was reading up about this the other day on AROS-Exec. Looks great. It will solve my issue of not having AROS compatable hardware.

Interesting. I'm a stickler for running native, myself, but still, very interesting...

Very interesting! :)

I saw a post about this over at powerdeveloper.org. Hopefully they will have the HW acceleration for media etc ready for the Efika MX soon (movies and Adobe Flash is no fun without it ;))!

Will you make an image file that can boot and run from a SD card (like the Android demo)?

Looking forward to see more about this! :)
MorphOS is Amiga done right! :)

If it's meant to run on Arm, Would'nt it be good if it ran on Pi?

I also read about this on aros-exec and I'm really excited about it. I will be contributing to any bounties that will support this effort.

This is fantastic news and I'm really looking forward to trying it. If you need beta testers, I have a bunch of spare computers around I'd be happy to help with testing and debugging efforts.

Being linux hosted means it will run GREAT on so many more computers.

Being able to seamlessly run chrome, open office, gimp, blender, synfig studio, cinelerra and so many other great linux apps will be fantastic.

Being able to run aros, amiga os3.x apps, linux apps and many windows apps with wine all on one computer, with Aros as the gui/interface will be awesome. And don't forget, DOSBOX is available also for aros and linux, so you can run thousands of dos games and applications as well.

On the linux side, you can also use emulators to run mac os (preosx) apps, atari st apps, and with virtualbox you can run any virtual machines you like (how about os2 or BEOS/Haiku in an aros window?) awesome!
This could just quite possibly be my perfect OS!
Keep up the great work and please do keep us all informed! I really can't wait to use this.

See here :
Deadwood has send me for the Amiganoid demo a first preview of hostGL.

SO we have fastest HD access, fastest 3D driver and a slim core.
