Title: Gallium3D Bounty for AROS Completed
Post by: deadwood on July 16, 2010, 05:30:17 PM
The Gallium3D Bounty is now considered complete. The bounty started almost a year ago with a goal of bringing modern OpenGL library to AROS. The results of the work are available in AROS Nightly Builds and include:

* mesa.library - the latest version of Mesa3D library which implements OpenGL API
* gallium.library - a client library allowing other modules to access 3D rendering capabilities. This can be used by clients like OpenGL, OpenVG or OpenCL (in future)
* software 3D driver - rendering emulation using CPU. Works on any system where hardware 3D is not available
* hardware 3D rendering for nvidia cards - supporting GeForce 5XXX cards and newer provides hardware rendering capabilities

As as additional bonus, the bounty brough a new 2D accelerated driver for the complete GeForce family as well as AGP support for some mother board chipsets.

I would like to thank you everyone who donated to this bounty as well as members of AROS community who helped me with testing the drivers on their systems. If you are interested in details of this work, please visit: http://web.aros3d.org/index.php/projects

Which, like the VIM editor, was originally developed on the Amiga - so I guess it's come full circle!

Thank you for opening up these doors of possibilities. Amazing how much work it is behind these deeper layers. I read the project link.

Nice work! One of the advantages I've always had using MorphOs was the support Morph offers for OpenGl.

Aros will now be able to support 3D and 2D operations on video cards that are more advanced than those supported by MorphOs.

Also, with both theseOS' supporting OpenGL cross development becomes easier without having to rely as heavily on SDL.

Great news, Condradulations!

Well played AROS team!

So this'll be a unified framework across a number of systems - Linux, BSD and Haiku look to be going in the direction of Gallium3D.

Should make hardware support for modern graphics cards a great deal easier!
