Turns out the Kick Start images are fine, just eUAE complained about them until I corrected the config file. Not sure why it gave the error it did rather than tell me I had the wrong path, but what ever, it works now.

As for Event Double Click and Menu...

...um ya, I kinda overlooked those. ;)

And to think I somehow managed to solve so many Where's Waldo puzzles back in the day.

Thankx again!

So how far can I push all this emulation business anyhow? I've heard I could even install Dopus Magellan II in MorphOS, is that true?!

Yeah it is.
Personally I've never used it but I know several users who do/did.

Here's some old document about it from the MorphOS 1.4 era: http://jpv.wmhost.com/magellan2ambient/magellan2ambient-faq.html

As I have never used it myself I can't tell how relevant it is today.

That's the page I had ran into! I'm glad to know it's for real! VERY glad! I can't imagine using an Amiga like environment without Magellan II.

Now for the bad news.

I went to install Magellan II, something new that it did that I'd never seen before was ask me what web browser I was using, then asking me to point to it's location.

All was well, but then it began to ask me to ASSIGN various paths, at which point I screwed something up and had to abort the installation.

After re-starting it, it asks again for me to point where the Web Browser is, which I did, but then after that the intallation fails every time.

I noticed that Quake II did this. I tried to install it, but when it asked for the CD, it REFUSED to recognize it, even though MorphOS had it mounted just fine. Naturally I had to abort the install, and low and behold, I can no longer attempt to install that without the install failing on me.

What's up with that? Classic Amiga Work Bench never pulled anything like this on me before.

Anyhow, here's the error I get on Dopus Magellan II and Quake II when I try to restart the isntallation.

Line 103

Command "copyfiles"

Error Message: Unable to open file or drawer

This is a fatal error and installation will be terminated.

Contact author of program or installation script and report problem.

Why bother with DopusM ???

Ambient is pretty much all that Magellan was and then some .....
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

It's cool, don't get me wrong, but it ain't Dopus Magellan II by a long shot!

Of course now I am forbidden to install it so I guess I've no choice in the matter. That's one thing I am NOT enjoying about my MorphOS experience thus far.

Can't continue to install some programs if previously failed during an install.

Some PPC games just will not work as they should, or will not install at all, what so ever which seems to be the case with WipeOUT 2097.

Regardless, I'm going to continue to try to trouble shoot, and will continue to ask questions because quite frankly, I'm hungry for a modern Amiga. AROS is almost there, but not quite, and from everything I've heard, or seen on Youtube, MorphOS seems the way to go, so maybe the problems I've having are on the user's end, though I've a feeling this is not the case for every instance, I mean things should just work right?

This could be due to numerous reasons. For instance it could be that the installer script isn't prepared to handle a case with previous interrupted installation. Some things might even have a installer script that doesn't just work, in which case you might need to perform manual installation.

Not everything will work, but with some manual work many of them do. For instance WipeOUT 2097 does work. http://www.morphzone.org/modules/newbb_plus/viewtopic.php?forum=10&topic_id=6596

It's just impossible for the MorphOS to handle everything automagically. Some things do require manual tweaking before they'll work.

Quake II

You should only need to copy the baseq2 directory (the game data files) to the same location as the quake2 binary.

If you have them isntalled on your old Amiga HD you could just copy them over.

This is a different port of Quake II than what I was trying to install. Glad to see someone released a more modern, free port of it to MorphOS.

What I don't get is why these installation scripts never acted up like this in OS 3.9.

As for Wipeout, I'll going to have a stab at this with this new information in mind. Thankx all once again, I'm glad you guys are patient, or at least try to be. ;)

As for copying Magellan II over manually...

...aside of the Opus directory, what other files will I need (aside of the MorphOS addons). Also will I just duplicate the Dopus section from the user start up script to the MorphOS one?

One last thing, let's assume I want to set up a UAE configuration which boots into OS 3.9 with maxed out RAM, etc. etc. Not unlike the configuration I use for AmiKit. When I goto set this up, would it be wise to use the root of my DH1: Partition to install onto instead of a HDF file, would this resolve a lot of my library issues and what not or would it just screw things up?

I'd really like to see someone's Command line example for when they launch there Virtual OS 3.9 environment.

When I launch it, after copying the baseq2 folder, I get the following error:

I dont know... it always works for me ;-) Without seeing an install script it is difficult to say why it fails. It is also possible there is a bug in the Installer util. Not likely but Installer tool is relatively new in MorphOS.

OS files are also located differently in MorphOS. Maybe Magellan installer is looking for LoadWB command in SYS:C which it cant find there. Or run prefs application from SYS:Prefs. I never had Magellan on my OS3 so I dont know.

You must correct paths before duplicating, of course.

I couldn't agree more :). It was the main reason I originally went for MorphOS and didn't even think about OS4.

And while Ambient has lately got some of the most noticeable features of Magellan2, it still covers only fraction of all Magellan's features. There are still lots of nice details to bring over ;). I'm still so used to my Magellan setup that I mainly use it for everything in MorphOS.

About installing... I just copied my old setup from Amiga and haven't tried to use installer. I think that I only have one dopus5: assing in my user-startup and then D2A program in WBStartup, which launches and integrates the Magellan on Ambient in startup. Rest is in Magellan's own dir. If you don't have possibility to have it in same path on MorphOS like it was previously on Amiga, you may need to tune some paths for startmenus, icons, filetypes etc before everything works correctly... but it's worth it to do it :) Or use some assigns cleverly to avoid the need for reconfiguring :)

Thank you PVC for the experienced input!

I got Wipeout working so now onto Magellan II, then sleep...

...I think. :)

So how does MorphOS manage to run these classic programs as if native like this without the use of UAE? This just blows my mind!

Is this the sort of features we could hope to get from AROS some day as well?

Hmm I just tried installing this quake2 on a vanilla MorphOS 2.5 installation (mac mini) and it worked. The only problem I had was the initial screenmode didn't work with the monitor I had. I worked around this by quitting the quake2 (hit esc for menu, hit up arrow, hit enter, hit y) and editing baseq2/config.cfg file to disable fullscreen mode:
Code: [Select]
set vid_fullscreen "0"Restarting (and now in window mode) I was able to configure everything to my specification. Then finally I changed quake2 to use minigl hardware rendering and screen resolution of 1280x1024.
