That's the page I had ran into! I'm glad to know it's for real! VERY glad! I can't imagine using an Amiga like environment without Magellan II.

Now for the bad news.

I went to install Magellan II, something new that it did that I'd never seen before was ask me what web browser I was using, then asking me to point to it's location.

All was well, but then it began to ask me to ASSIGN various paths, at which point I screwed something up and had to abort the installation.

After re-starting it, it asks again for me to point where the Web Browser is, which I did, but then after that the intallation fails every time.

I noticed that Quake II did this. I tried to install it, but when it asked for the CD, it REFUSED to recognize it, even though MorphOS had it mounted just fine. Naturally I had to abort the install, and low and behold, I can no longer attempt to install that without the install failing on me.

What's up with that? Classic Amiga Work Bench never pulled anything like this on me before.

Anyhow, here's the error I get on Dopus Magellan II and Quake II when I try to restart the isntallation.

Line 103

Command "copyfiles"

Error Message: Unable to open file or drawer

This is a fatal error and installation will be terminated.

Contact author of program or installation script and report problem.

It's cool, don't get me wrong, but it ain't Dopus Magellan II by a long shot!

Of course now I am forbidden to install it so I guess I've no choice in the matter. That's one thing I am NOT enjoying about my MorphOS experience thus far.

Can't continue to install some programs if previously failed during an install.

Some PPC games just will not work as they should, or will not install at all, what so ever which seems to be the case with WipeOUT 2097.

Regardless, I'm going to continue to try to trouble shoot, and will continue to ask questions because quite frankly, I'm hungry for a modern Amiga. AROS is almost there, but not quite, and from everything I've heard, or seen on Youtube, MorphOS seems the way to go, so maybe the problems I've having are on the user's end, though I've a feeling this is not the case for every instance, I mean things should just work right?

This is a different port of Quake II than what I was trying to install. Glad to see someone released a more modern, free port of it to MorphOS.

What I don't get is why these installation scripts never acted up like this in OS 3.9.

As for Wipeout, I'll going to have a stab at this with this new information in mind. Thankx all once again, I'm glad you guys are patient, or at least try to be. ;)

As for copying Magellan II over manually...

...aside of the Opus directory, what other files will I need (aside of the MorphOS addons). Also will I just duplicate the Dopus section from the user start up script to the MorphOS one?

One last thing, let's assume I want to set up a UAE configuration which boots into OS 3.9 with maxed out RAM, etc. etc. Not unlike the configuration I use for AmiKit. When I goto set this up, would it be wise to use the root of my DH1: Partition to install onto instead of a HDF file, would this resolve a lot of my library issues and what not or would it just screw things up?

I'd really like to see someone's Command line example for when they launch there Virtual OS 3.9 environment.

You should only need to copy the baseq2 directory (the game data files) to the same location as the quake2 binary.

When I launch it, after copying the baseq2 folder, I get the following error:

Error: Couldn't fall back to software refresh!!

Thank you PVC for the experienced input!

I got Wipeout working so now onto Magellan II, then sleep...

...I think. :)

So how does MorphOS manage to run these classic programs as if native like this without the use of UAE? This just blows my mind!

Is this the sort of features we could hope to get from AROS some day as well?

Very noble project!
So in essence, if this project reaches it's goals, it will more or less alow AROS to have the sort of Classic Amiga compatability that MorphOS enjoys, but without the Kickstart roms?

As for Quake II, I'll try a couple other sources, and see what I come up with. I can't even boot the game as of yet.

Quake I also gave me problems, but Quake III booted fine, though it and PrBOOM become a bit sluggish at times in the menus, though thankfully not during gameplay.

So how does MorphOS get around the Kickstart issue?

So far I got Magellan II working, but I have to assign it it's own WallPaper as I can't figure out which Prefs file to load in order to share Ambient's.

Also it does not seem to like Ambient's PNG icons. Is there a way to fix this?

@PVC: D2A actually, that's how I got Magellan to share the same screen as Ambient. Though I'm not sure what you mean by D2A's Tooltypes, as it appears to just be a file I drop in the Startup folder...
"add to D2A's tooltypes: "DOPUS_COMMAND=Run DOpus5irectoryOpus DETACH QUIET""

Also, if I turn off backdrop, then how can I resize Magellan to be in the smallest window, I'm confused.

I was just about to come back and edit my replay. I've not messed with ToolTypes in a while and forgot that they were part of the ICON info. :)

In regards to the backdrop. So you are saying I should resize it and make it as small as possible before turning it off?

Alright, I'm in business, except that D2A's patch says "No matching patches." when I run it, and the icons at the top of my directory listings are missing for some reason.

Also when I right click on a listing, it now scrolls down instead of bringing up the list of options like it did under AmiKit.

Last but not least, when I have a lister open and swtich to Icon mode, I  see PNG images icons again and can not gain acess to directories until I view the directory listing by name.

Correction: The ambient icons do not display correctly in the Dopus lister, but I can use them. What they display instead of what they are supposed to is a box that says Ambient PNG.

Is there a way to correct this, or something I've overlooked?

I'd be interested in looking at these 3rd party patches...

...if anything goes wrong, I'm sure I can undo it. Otherwise I'm starting to feel as if I should be content with Opus 4.

Still no icons at the top of my lister. I checked to make sure the directory locations were correctly pointing to the icons, and all was well. Not sure what's up. Might I need to install NewIcons in MorphOS?

1. Yes, when I goto select an Icon for the Lister Tool Bar it goes directly to the correct directory. I did my work in User-Starup. ;)

2. Name Mode PopUp did the trick, thankx!

3. I'll try that as soon as I get my Lister Tool Bar Icons working. :)

I'm waiting on my friend to drop off the other piece to my computer desk so I can set my 1200 and 600 back up, then I'll be able to test those icons on the real deal.

In the mean time, care to compress and upload your dopus iff icons for me to test on here? :)
