Title: iPhone & MorphOS
Post by: Fingers on December 25, 2010, 06:25:42 AM
Hi all,

If I plug in the iPhone, it is identified, but not mounted (at least there is no icon).

I open the mount program, but it is not seen.

Can you retrieve pictures taken on an iPhone when running under MorphOS? (like the way Winblows *no iTunes* sees it as a camera)

Cheers & merry christmas!

PZ.

I suppose that what you want are ports of libplist, usbmuxd, libimobidevice and ifuse for MorphOS.

Do I? I really don't know...

I just want the ability to download pictures taken on the iPhone to MorphOS.

Doesn't it appear as mass storage device? The more I know about iPhone the less I want one.

It doesn't appear as mass storage, but on Windows when you plug it in it does appear as a camera, allowing you to copy photos and videos off directly. So if MorphOS supports cameras as a storage device, then it might be possible to get it to work.

Poseidon should be able to handle massstorage or ptp, no idea what the iphone supports.

I got an iPhone 3 weeks ago.  Thankfully my wife wanted a new phone earlier this week so I gave her my iPhone and got a Windows 7 phone instead.

Just wait until you experience the fun of trying to get an AVI file onto you iPhone.  Although you can't drag n drop with this Windows 7 phone either, Zune is a hell of a better interface than iTunes and you just drag n drop into that.

Have you tried to use VLC?

That works fantastic with my iPhone4, but yes, you need to use iTunes.

In iTunes you click on "apps" and VLC and from there you can add video files.

The nice thing is that no conversion is necessary and VLC has played everything I have thrown at it.

No, I just used iTunes.  I converted an AVI file using Vuze, but just got generally fed up with the whole Apple experience.  The only "plus" I would give the iPhone was that it was a hell of a lot easier to set up my business "Exchange" email account compared to the cursing and searching I did on the Win7 phone, but overall I'm happy with the one I have now and I'm no longer getting pestered to give the iTunes store a credit card number.

PS.  And my battery seems to last 4 times longer than my iPone's did.

Go and download [for PC] iFunBox: http://www.i-funbox.com/

It is free software and you can enter much more into device than you could by simple default Windows Camera system...

I don't know about MOS and their ARM plans, but Pavel (sonic) has an iPhone port of AROS on the go, you will need to jail break the phone first ;)

Your mistake was to fight the process, which would indeed have resulted in frustration.

I have to agree here also! If you work with the system rather than fighting it you'll have a much better experience. Mute point now for Darrin though, as long as you're happy with what you've got, I guess it's all good :)

Odd point though, as I've neve had any problem just dropping a video file into iTunes and it automatically converting for use on my iPhone (if it needed to be converted, a little conversion progress bar would pop up)...

I've had an iPhone 3GS working on MorphOS through PTP. The icon didn't show up on the desktop, but the device was accessible through MyMorphOS, shell, and DOpus. I think the device name is PTP:.
