Welcome back to the Amiga!

Sorry that your first experiences with the CF card aren't great. I see from your flag icon you are in the UK, so there are plenty of laws which are on the side of the consumer.

Try Amiga Heaven for help. If that comes to nothing put in a claim for a refund via the payment method you used, or the selling channel e.g. eBay. Just because you have installed the card doesn't void the sellers legal obligations to sell something fit for purpose or which should meet the description. At worst you then have a free CF card that you can set up from scratch.

Are you actually booting from this card, or are you booting from another hard disk?

Really pleased you got it working.

I'd love to discover why changing the Ram configuration allowed a load of things to start working, when it seems like some assigns weren't being applied, we may never know.

If you have a way of getting new files onto your Amiga from the Internet, download Snoopdos and run it when you find something doesn't work. It's a really great app to show you what is failing like a missing file, or a path (or you might find it's already installed somewhere).
