Get the gotek drive from Ebay and flash it with HxC firmware.
you can use ADF file like normal disks.

For SCSI you will need a SCSI controller, and that will cost you some money.
There are alot of options to upgrade the 500.

Extra 512k RAM in the trapdoor it's always nice, most games will use it and some games require it. Buy that for sure.

The question is, how much you are willing to spend and what you want to do with your Amiga 500?
