AmigaKit SCSI2SD
« on: July 10, 2021, 02:39:19 PM »
Hi all,

I just installed a SCSI2SD from AmigaKit - v5.2 in my A3000D. Im using a Sandisk 32GB Utlra SD card with IDEFix97 and PFS3aio. What sort of transfer speeds can I expect? I realise there are lots of factors like speed of the SD Card, buffers etc but what should I be looking for as a ball park figure?

Using SCSI bench from aminet looks like I'm getting c 880; my zip 100 drive gets about 784. My IGB Jaz gets about double that.

Just want to check Ive set the SCSI2SD up properly.

Works very well as a solution when your real SCSI drive has packed up.

Just out of curiosity, why IDEFix on the A3000 scsi controller?
I'm using SCSI2SD in my A3000 as well and it's noticeably slower than a physical SCSI drive but at least it's quiet.

Yes, IDEFix is not necessary with your setup. The 5.x scsi2sd has a max speed of around 1MB/sec.

The SD card is 32GB - thought I needed IDEFix to get over the 8GB barrier? Ive been paying around with it and have now got three partitions. The first is 2GB and is using Fast File System. The second is also 2GB and the third is c25GB. These latter two are using PFS3aio. All seems to be working ok.

Thanks.

For >4GB support, three things are needed: a 64-bit-aware filesystem, a 64-bit-aware scsi.device, and a 64-bit-aware HDToolbox (or similar prep tool). PFS works for the filesystem. HDToolbox and scsi.device work out-of-the-box if you're using 3.5, 3.9, 3.1.4, or 3.2.

Otherwise you need patches. It's been ages since I've used it, but I don't think IDEFix one of them.

If you don't want to mess around with patches, scsi2sd has a config feature to artificially limit the size of the SD card, so you can make it appear to your Amiga that you've only got a 4GB drive.

Cheers Matt. Im running OS3.9 with BB1 ,2 & the unofficial 3 & 4. Have ordered 3.2 with a set of Roms which should arrive sometime next week. Plan is to clean install the 3.2 roms and OS 3.2.

The CS MKII SCSI controller is good for 10MB/s, the V6 2021 SCSI2SD can do that. I think I'll get one for my CSIII and a V5.2 one for my 2000 GForce combo.

You’re in good shape, then. :)

As long as your boot partition is below the 4GB barrier your current setup is fine. Once you get the 3.2 ROMs installed you can put the boot partition anywhere you want.

I was thinking of the v6 board but I heard the v5.2 was more stable for the Amiga for some reason. I have a CSMKII and the SCSI module but I am now using it in my 3000T as my A4000D died. The 3000T doesn't have the INT2 mod and Ive just had it repaired by Anthony Hoffman (Castellan on A.Org). I don't want to mess it up. The v5.2 has been working great so far and now I'm 3D printing a bracket for it to go into the A3000T second floppy slot.

Thinking on getting a couple of other 5.2 cards one for my A3000D and the other for my A2000 with GVP Hard Card.

Can't find the speed of the A3000, not listed in the hardware Database, but the stock controller is likely well within the range of the V5.2.

And here it is. Installed in an old repurposed external SCSI Case sitting on top of my A3000T. Was originally a Jaz drive now its the SCSI2SD adapter housed in a 3D printed bracket.
