Network printer configuration (Win98)
« on: September 05, 2004, 09:07:22 PM »
I'm trying to get an old HP LaserJet 4 Plus configured to print over a network using a JetDirect module.

My Amiga configured without a hitch using NetPar.device.
Windows 98, of course, is being troublesome.

The Amiga and PC are configured over DHCP at (for the moment) 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.101, respectively.
The printer is configured at the static address 192.168.1.10.

Windows can ping that address without a problem, but it can't seem to recognize that there's an online printer at the address.

Any advice greatly appreciated :-)

IIRC, Windows 9x didn't support TCP/IP (LPR) printing (Windows NT, 2000, and XP do).  You'll need to install the JetDirect software on the computer and it should find it.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Excellent. I'll try that. Thanks.

Hooray, it works! Thanks!

It's quite sad, though, that Windows, an OS with networking mostly integrated, needs more than 6MB worth of files to get this to work, while AmigaOS, an OS with no networking integrated, needs only a few KB.
