A3K xsurf100 goes wifi
« on: August 03, 2015, 01:46:08 AM »
Picked up a Netgear N300 (wifi range extender) today. Nice little  unit and might solve some problems for some if faced like me moving the  set up from spot that has Ethernet to where there is none!
Easy set up  using the Wps button on both the router and the extender.  So now my A3K  is in a room upstairs away from a hardwired connection and now able to  connect to the internet and them home network no problem.
Here is a  video just showing it in action.. Sorry on how lame the video is but  gets the point across nicely I think. Hope the link works. Thanks. Posted this on other forums incase you see the repeat lol.. ..

I use the same to connect wirelessly with a MorphOS 3.9 Mac Mini and with the network cable to a SAM460ex running AmigaOS 4.1 FE. It works great.

I used it before too with my A1200, which I later sold.

Works great and happy it works with the switch. Everything been sitting awhile.. Blowing the dust off and firing it all up again. Been too long, lost my basement to my youngest and downgraded to a little room upstairs lol. Needed to think quick!

I use the power network plugs instead they work much better than wifi , better speeds and reliability

Also if you got spare router ( most people have, from changing suppliers) you can connect the spare router to a power network plug.  Switch off dns on second router, and then you have two wireless hotspots on the same network, hence extending your wireless network and having three or four Ethernet ports, without compromising on speed.  The wireless extenders basically half your bandwidth

I seen the a/c network adapters but none where in stock with the Ethernet port , all was just wireless and they were a few bucks more.  And bridging a router would of been the route I would of took, that was the way it was set up in the basement before. Thanks for the input thou, great minds do think alike lol. Well up and running anyhow and no speed complaints.(but faster is always better muhahaah)
The NetGear does give a connection of wireless N300 I do believe to my other router which is a 2.4/5 ghz duel band n900 for speeds up to 450mbps. I have a wireless n300 adapter for the pc on order and should be here soon so further testing the pc side will happen via big box and lappy.

Not like the Amiga needs any faster of a connection anyhow lol

I run custom DD-WRT firmware on older routers to make wireless access points all the time.  Was going to make a dedicated one for my Amiga.  Was even going to post a video.  Aaah, you beat me to it!  :p
