I got an iphone from work. Ditched it again as the sound quality is better in my old SE.

I have an HTC Desire (the newish regular Desire) and I'm not a big fan of it. It's cool for watching movies on the go and a quick google and stuff, but as a phone it sucks balls. I just can't seem to make heads or tails of the contact list thingy, the on screen keyboard is useless for my fat fingers, the reaction time when tilting is ridicilous. I have no experience with an IPhone and I'd like to keep it that way. My experience with an IPad is enough to not make me want to pay for any other Apple devices (the IPad was free).

I appreciate having the HTC as a secondary phone for work and enjoying the bonus of it for mediaconsumption on the go, but for making calls and sending SMS messages I'll take my trusty private Nokia E51.

The hacking and messing about aspect of Android phones does appeal to me though, but I haven't found time yet to delve into it.

If you are in the US, a lot depends on the carrier you are with.

I'm in Japan, and both are offered by the same carrier (SoftBank)

finally I made my decision. steve (blow) jobs can suck my BALLz :afro: I went for the Android and Desire HD ! hurray ! (naked dancerz doing hula hula here) :afro::banana::banana::banana:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjMGAXEHrRw

can the I-Phuke do this ?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbD4kSuxvJA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CS1jiG2GIxw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9IJQnwunbc

no it cant. so  TO HELL WITH THE I-PUKE !

The battery is little bit problematic, but its ok for a day if dont fondle it too much. The screen is awesome, speed is very good (much better than the tube stuff I posted) I'm loving this phone !

On a plus side, I just compiled my first hello world ! (yet to run it on the phone though)

http://developer.android.com/guide/tutorials/hello-world.html

there's also a Atari 8 bit emulator ! and playing Yoomp with gyroscope is so much fun !

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqmyLKG1l-4

the only downside is the multitasking nature of the OS makes it so that you have to keep a track of whats running if you want to do some important stuff. like when you're taking a video, and lots of apps running in the background, your video turns out shite. I still need to learn to tweak this baby. But so far, its awesome ! :knuddel:

Install z4root to one click root your phone, then get SetCPU, JuiceDefender Beta and Autokiller* which will double your battery life.

Then get XMP for your retro MOD playing kicks. :)

Then register at http://forum.xda-developers.com and http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/

*Make sure you get Autokiller, NOT any of the Task Killers, task killers are not good!

thanks nicholas ! great stuff ! I just installed them and the change is very obvious ! wonder why makers decide cripple their own devices with the default shit they put ?

anyway, now I'm all set, except for one thing. As a first objective, I'll try to port this to the android ! stay tuned !

edit : wow there's some paula emulation in the code too ? this thing is also a mod player ! not that it's really necessary cause XMP covers about all amiga mod needs but cool !

Here's a direct comparison between an Android and an iPhone phone...

My HD2 which was released over a year ago wipes the floor with the campPhone 4 and it's not even a native Android phone.

I shall be hacking Gingerbread on to it in the next few days when i get some spare time.

Greetings,
Is there anyone here who can point me to a site that has side by side comparisons of recent Android phones. Of the sites i've looked at so far, the information seems outdated.

No probs. :)

You should find http://android.modaco.com/ and http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/ useful too.

No point buying a phone that isn't hackable!

On that note, I recommend getting your hands on an HTC HD2 as they are the ultimate in hacker friendly phones and are very cheap on T-Mobile US if you are in the states.

The phone is capable of running Windows Mobile 6.5 Pro, Windows Phone 7, Andorid 2.1 Eclair, Android 2.2 Froyo, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, any of the HTC Desire/Desire HD/ Desire Z/ Evo 4G Android with Sense ROMS and these OS's are runnable from NAND Flash or SDCard.  Multiboot is easily supported too. :)

I was halfway through porting UADE as it uses the UAE engine to play modules using the original 68k assembly replay routines for each mod format.

Someone beat me to it, added sc68, sidplay and a load of other 8bit emulations to it too!

Behold the wonder that is 'Droidsound' on the market!!

I have reported some bugs in XMP for android, particularly in it's MED3 support, but overall it's a decent multiformat mod player.
