Could there be an Amithlon PDA?
« on: June 06, 2002, 11:37:08 AM »
I just saw these on TechTV...

http://www.tiqit.com/

They are a full fledged PC in a PDA form factor... and will run any flavor of Windows or Linux out of the box according to the developers in the interview.

I think the processor is 300 MhZ...if it boots Amithlon this might be the first fully functional Amiga PDA...if nothing else it should run UAE/Amiga Forever.

Sincerely,

-- Sprocket...

Hi
OQ and HP have similar product based on Transmeta 1 GHz.

Amiga ColdFire V4e (333 MHz) PDA will be more powerful and run Amiga OS 3.9 software at full speed.

Unfortunately Motorola did not release stand alone V4e CPU (Vaporware), therefore the PDA is also Vaporware.

Another possibility is Amiga PowerPC PDA based on IBM PowerPC 405LP (Low Power), at 380 MHz / 500 MIPS.

Very nice piece of hardware and the possibility of running something different than windows is good.
The only thing missing is an included mobile phone :-)
It also has an infrared port so maybe it could be used as an remote control. Now that would be funny, programming some script to send commands and walk into a electronics shop :-D  :-D

Amithlon would need drivers for the custom hardware in it (touchscreen, display drivers etc. ) but UAE should run i think.(it is using the windows drivers)

O2 xda with mobile phone .  out now.  is also a very nice piece of hardware. Unfortunatly running windows (pocketpc) only.  but imho the virtual (touchscreen) keyboard makes it look much better.

If QNX would run then OSXL would work. maby with the resent release of QNX 6.2 they have support built in?

It depends on how standard the hardware is.
They dont mention qnx on the tiqit site but they do mention linux so there is a chance it wil work.

qnx does have support for touch screens and usb, maybe the sound is Ac97 standard. but it doesnt support all the latest hardware versions.
( i dont know if qnx 6.2 will work with OsXL for sure since some things like memory handling and memory sharing have changed)

unfortunatly, most of these new devices are sort of expensive and thus targetted at the (semi) bussines market and so it needs to have word excel outlook compatability (and windows).
