Some days ago a updating of avast appears and after the installation a requester with "avast recollect information from you computer, internet searches, downloads... for make a better product for you", my question is, any antivirus that dont need to spy anything?

Avast is rubbish, all the "free" solutions usually are. Full of popups, trying to get you to buy extra stuff, blah blah. I recommend MSE for lightweight installs/older systems, and Symantec for more powerful/business use systems (not the Norton home crap, the Symantec Endpoint Protection business program). Always back that up with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and you should be fine as long as you don't spend your day looking at porn sites. ;)

Don't know why Bing gets such a bad rap, I watched him the other day on DVD and he didn't bother my computer.

Between mse and symantec endpoint theres no option? MSE feels very crap and symantec no comments, i just want software spyware free.

The only security software I really trust on windows is SpyBot search and destroy. It's a must have.

Avast is a virus in itself, IMO. I'd go without a virus/spyware suite before using Avast. All this being said, your best defense is simply using your machines in a smart fashion. People that open any email attachments in their inboxes will be infected regardless of protection software on windows, IMO.
I've used the ESET solutions for many, many years - both on my personal and business PC's and networks, and installed them on likely close to a couple hundred PC's for clients and I swear by it. It is not free, however - but most good things aren't. Kaspersky is great as well.
I've got a good number of associates that use the defacto MS offerings that come with the modern Windows revisions just love it as well. it works just fine unless you use your PC in buffoonery mode.

is a good one. It use to be really lean, but has gone to the bloatware model now. It will add 3 extra processes and if it can't update it can cause other programs to freeze. I'll put up with it for safety.

Kaspersky is highest rated at this time for catching the most infections.

Yes, I used to use AVG out of all the freebies my view is it was the best, with WWW repudiation for free. Now I just use MSs Security Essentials.
If ur on XP id recommend AVG free.
Out if the commercial packages Id recommend McAfee. Less pain overall.

I'm not really a Windows person, but on the few MS machines we have we use Avast free edition. With the popup/notification option turned off it's quiet and doesn't get in the way (apart from the yearly nag to upgrade or re-register the free version). It's not caused any problems, but did correctly identify a virus on my other half's PC a few months ago.
Why does Avast have such a bad reputation? Most of the other options I've seen have a massive negative effect on performance.
If it wasn't for Cubase (and the cost of a mac) I'd be 100% Linux :(

i'll second that, I've used Avast for ages and on silent mode I don't even know it's there - doesn't seem to slow the system down either.

I to use AVG Free Edition and it works very well, I use it on all my windows based systems the best free antivirus in my opinion.
