Description: Finally got around to checking and removing the batteries in my Amigas.  Some had started leaking, luckily none ruined the motherboard.  Most, I was able to just grab with a pair of pliers and work back and forth length wise and they came off.  Had a false sense of security because the last time I used them they looked good.  But that's what's wrong, time passes with little use and they go dead and leak. Better remove those batteries!

@patrik
my brothers A500+ also had battery that looked like new, it didn't leak at all after all those years. But!, its different type than those in A2000 and A4000, its NiMh, IIRC
(pale blue, like one on photo in middle, I bet that one didn't leak too)

Thank goodness my A1200 has a Microbotics memory board with a "button" battery, so I don't have to worry.

Do these batteries leak only when they die, or do they just blow up randomly?

Yeah, the batteries seem to have a very varying life-length. The battery in my A500+ is also still working fine and it is definately quite old by now. I wonder what variable that influences the life-length of the battery the most.

I bought my A4000/040 second hand, and my battery is fine also, but I check it regularly...
