A3000T Reset Loop
« on: December 14, 2022, 10:06:28 PM »
Hi all,

After just over a year from my last post re non-booting travails of my 3000T I thought Im back again with a non-booting 3000T. All has been well for a little over a year since Castellen refurbed my miggy; recapped; previous repair on the board tidied up and a general clean up. Last couple of day's it started struggling to boot. Needed a soft reset to get going; then it started flashing an error message when executing start-up-sequence. I then got it to boot. Was working fine and I ran some diags on it ATK and VAT - memory tests - all ok. I then tried to boot it again, this time I got a red guru same error message 80000004. Now its stuck in a reset loop. The only reason I know is cause the rainbow pattern of the CSMKII keeps cycling but doesn't go into the start up screen with the amiga logo.

Setup is CSMKII; 3.2 ROMs no on-board memory other than the soldered to the board 1 MB chip ram; no memory on the CSMKII and all Zorro cards removed.

Anyone have any ideas as to why t would be in a reset loop? Im hoping and praying that this is something simple but I fear it may not.

Here's hoping (and praying)

Thanks Kolla. The CSMKII is ok - I tested it in 3000D. When I remove it I get a black screen - not pitch black but black. There is a signal to the monitor. It just doesnt get to the kickstart screen. I have no storage attached - I had a SCSI2SD attached and I initially thought the SD card had been corrupted but Ive checked when I got the 3000T to boot last and its ok.

Ive done some googling and I see a few folks with similar issues - 3000T stuck in reset loop; Few comments on EAB and AmigaLove - but without solutions. My 2000 died a few years ago but I got it running by popping out Agnus and reseating her. I tried that on the 3000T last night but no joy.

Someone on another board suggested the tick signal - J350. Ill try that and see what happens. My suspicion is that there is some sort of not typical fault. I have had memory issues with it after I got it back from repair. Think though that was my bad installation of the ZIPs (bent pins). I had been running it without on-board fast ram - with the 128MB on the CSMKII and 256MB on BIGRAM Plus. All was fine until a couple of days ago.

Its come at a bad time too as I don't have much time available to investigate / test it properly. itll be a project for Easter if its not a quick fix and if I cant do anything with it - it'll be a long trip to NZ again if Catellen is still fixing amiga's. Wish there was someone close to me in the UK. its not the cost of the repair that bother me its the potential for it to get broken / lost in transit.

Plan for the weekend is to reseat ICs, clean contacts tec. DIAG ROM - I have but for my A2000. Ill get the version I need and try that - will be a new year job though. Its very odd - was working great up until last week. Temperatures dropped maybe a coincidence.

If I have no luck I'll drop you a mail - glad you're still doing Amiga repairs, absolute lifesaver! I may also send you may A4000D board which was another project I never got round to. Its got a black screen also.

Best.

I swapped out the 3.2 ROMs for 3.1 ROMs and hey presto kickstart screen. Switch off - reconnected the SCSI2SD and CSMKII with 1 stick RAM. No ZIPs on the main board just the !MB soldered chip ram. Switch on - no boot. Soft reset boot. Another soft reset with ATK on floppy disk; boots, now running ATK memory diag.

Could the 3.2 ROMs have failed? What are the chnces? Or does the 3.1 ROMs work differently such that the dont trigger whatever the fault is? Very odd am going to run ATK for quite a few rounds and then fit the ZIPs for the 1 MB chip ram. I have some other ZIPs I got off ebay when I first had probs but never fitted them, might give them a try.

Its very odd. 3.2 ROMS had been fine until last week. No issues. I have Blizkicked 3.2.1 into the CSMKII. All is ok.

I have a 3000D with ROM tower - plan is to test the 3.2 Roms from the 3000T in in it. If I have no boot it point to a problem with the ROMs; if not then suggest a prob with the 3000T.

I am happy for now - project for the new year - ill get Santa to get me some diag roms and null modem cable.
