Amiga.org Crashing AWeb
« on: January 01, 2003, 01:45:52 PM »
Is anyone else getting recoverable guru's constantly when using AWeb to view the Amiga.org mainpage, or is it something on my computer alone using a limping Cyberstorm PPC that only works as an 060 now?

I getting the same issue, both my a1200T and A4000T crash when opening Amiga.org
Strange thing is they are both different hardware and installs.
Also it happens on Ibrowse and Voyager, i think it might be something to do Amiga.org frames.
Was fine before up until this week.

Amiga.org doesn't use frames.

Turn off image loading before you load the main page.

Then load the images one by one and you should find
the problem image.

In this case it's probably images/icons/em_small.gif
(right hand side - bottom - message icons)

I found this a few days ago in Voyager but needed AWeb
to find which image was responsible.

It seems to be a P96 related problem (loads fine here
with CGX), but I can't figure out why. Every time
the image is loaded there is a single byte overrun
(Use mungwall/mungmem/muguardianangel to protect)

Hope this helps,
Duncan.

A lot of things don't work on Amiga.org when using an Amiga browser (painfully ironic), but it doesn't guru here. Voyager does, but that crashes me all the time anyway.

P96 bug? Might be. I have BVision, CGX only.

You also might want to check your PVS settings. I had enabled System To
Screen Blits and No Planar-To-Chunky. One or both caused V to crash.
I sold my Amiga for a small fortune, but a part of my soul went with it.

Under Picasso96 I use Voyager 3.3.126 and the OS 3.9 version of AWeb
on A.org with no problems.

I once had an old buggy version of P96 which caused some images on
various sites to appear all corrupted, but an upgrade to the latest
P96 fixed the problem.
Been perfect ever since, I've never had any problems using A.org,
other than the things like URL, quotes, etc, don't work.

Well, this is a P96 system with a Picasso II board.  Thing is, it does work with IBrowse, just AWeb seems to be having problems.  Which brings me up to another point (I have a hunch it's a javascript thing), is the AWeb open source team doing further development, or did they just compile the existing source and release it for free?  Unlike others, I like AWeb and would like to see some of the JS shored up a bit.  (It takes AWeb about 5 minutes to figure out the JS on SportingNews.com).

How do I turn on one image?  I can "turn off Image", but when I go to "turn on Image" they all load up.

I am getting crashes somewhere around 80% load up, so it is one of the last images, I just do not know which one.  And if I do find out which one, then what?

The part I do on understand yet, is what change?  It was fine until about a week ago?

@LordSteven

Like you, IBrowse has no problem. Voyager on the other hand has exactly the same
problem, with exactly the same image. I've tested all three browsers on two
systems - one with Prometheus/Voodoo3/P96, the other PicassoII/CGX (Both 040
systems). Only the P96 system gives problems (Yes it is the latest version). Others
with the same problem all seem to be using P96.

@Warrent

You can just click on the images to load them. For imagelinks make sure you click
the bottom right half to avoid following the link.

The image in question is only there before you login. It's on the homepage on the
right hand side, in the Who Dunnit? section. It's the 'Send an Email to ..." image.
When you have logged in this is replaced by a different image, which does not
give any problems.

So, I would suggest turning off image loading before you log in, then back on again
afterwards.

Duncan.

Hmmm.. Yep, that's whacky.  I tried the AWeb image off thing when I got home, and sure enough, logged in then turned images on, no problem.  What in an image could cause such a thing?  I'm sure someone has already *notified* Wayne about it too.
