Burning on efika
« on: September 25, 2008, 03:48:13 PM »
figured I'd try the thread here...

Has anyone been able to do burning with efika? if so how and with what?

I have an issue with the drive hanging up the system after inserting a blank cd.

Not at all!  Everyone knows that A.org is the best and fastest place to come for any information remotely related to Amiga computing, including AROS, AOS4.x and even MOS2.1  :-D

I will be watching this thread for an answer, as I am a new EFIKA owner/user.

I just installed a wireless keyboard and mouse combo on my EFIKA which works great, so that has freed my second usb port for an external CD/DVD drive.  I am looking for recommendations on which drive to buy and the results of your question to find out if burning CDs, or do I dare ask, DVDs even on the USB1.1 interface of the EFIKA? :lol:

Yea i figured someone here may have a solution.  the usb keyboard/mouse combo is great true I have mine in the bottom drive but occasionally I do get drops of mostly the mouse, keystroke works then to move the pointer.  I have a logitech  combo.  on the usb, it was the lite on usb super write lightscribe.  it works but does the same stuff the hpdrive did, I can't be the only one attempting this so hopefully there are ideas out the I know Moto has a setup.

@zyphoid,

I was looking at an external Lightscribe drive from Tiger Direct (where I have bought several computer items in the past), that they were selling for, I think, $69, or $79.  I thought it would be nice to have for burning labels onto CDs when I had it connected to my MacBook, or Dell PC.

But, I don't want to buy it just for that if it won't work well on my EFIKA.  I realize that due to the USB1.1 interface instead of USB2.0, the EFIKA will never be great at writing to any external CD+R/RW disc, and that it is probably stupid to think that it could reliably write to a DVDRW/+R/-R disc, but I want an external USB optical drive that works reliably for reading and is also capable of writing, even if it is slowly.

ok by mounting with usb first then opening frying pan, and then finding the class on poseidon, going to its preference, and playing with some of its settings, and then cueing up my mp3's I am able to then plug the power in without hangup the system, then i go back into poseidon, change the settings back, but when writing, i get an error of track layout failed(-18) disc will not be written to

the drive is mounted and bounded to...well i dunno cant find it now but it's there

drive progress shows 3/4 activity status but that varies. if the mouse drops, unplug and plug in again.  I had to do it three times.
no chang in ram so i guess it's not even trying to do anything

oh @amigadave yep its the same drive I got from them...tigerdirect is good!I got all the efika extras from them

So, have you been able to read CDs and DVDs, play mp3s and play DVD movies on your EFIKA using that drive you got from Tiger Direct?  If you can, I think I will get one.  The price is good.
