I'm having similar problems and I don't think it's down to typing !!

My usb stick is connected directly into the Efika and all other peripherals are connected to a hub.

I will be trying other usb sticks in an attempt to resolve this issue.

I assume when it states download the image to the root directory all that involves is copying the file directly to the usb stick.

Amiga 4000 with Picasso IV graphics card etc
Amiga 4000 with Mediator
A1200 in D Box with blizzard ppc 040/25Mhz and mediatorTX with Radeon graphics card, Abit FM801 soundcard , Spider USB abd NIC card - now running OS4
CD32 with FMV card...

@lanoakley:

yes, you have to copy the file to a USB stick.

My update to MOS2.1 went without a problem. But, I do feel for  those here who are having issues.  Here below I have quoted myself from a thread earlier when MOS2.0 first came out and I still believe it is playing a part with many of the USB issues that I'm hearing.

"Now something to think about, I had some problems with stick and hub orientation as it pertained to usb ports on the Efika, where I had the hub plug into the top usb port and the stick plug into the bottom and I was getting system freeze ups at various stopping points during the firmware boot up. I swapped them around and was successful.

Another possible problem some have been having with keyboard and mouse being plugged into the usb hub, make sure your mouse is plugged in after the keyboard, meaning if it is a 4 port usb hub plug keyboard hub port 1, then mouse hub port 2."

I have a wireless kb + mouse combo which takes up 1 usb slot, then I'm using a 8gig USB stick, no hub.

I believe keeping a hub out of the equation helps to avoid these freezes and lost of keyboard and mouse problems.  Working straight from the Efika's USB ports without the Hub is the way to go.

yea I agree.

@zyphoid:
I havent tried this just yet so I dont know if it will work.

Plug in your USB kb in one USB slot on the EFIKA, plug in the USB stick in the other.
hit ESC to get to an OF prompt.
type in the usual stuff to boot the install image.
As soon as you hit enter, remove the USB keyboard and plug in the USB mouse.
I dont believe I typed in ANYTHING after I got to iWizard, just point and click through it.

When it comes down to it, you don't even need the mouse. You can control the mouse pointer using the keyboard like on a classic Amiga.

@TheMagicM
actually i have the same setup as you in regards to key/mouse combo... and at times i had to use the keyboard to cross a file from drive to drive due to it dropping only the mouse! yea i thought that was strange.
anyway not to offend the usb package author... i'll refrain from saying anything about that.  instead reformatting the boot partition in hopes of starting on fresh drive.  I copied files to the non boot part dh:1, and tried installing from there, but even doing that initially ended with an error after 4459 files copied, which is right at the end, but enough to mess up the process from being complete or booting. I get the feeling after all that i've put into getting it set up, that i'm now not going to enjoy the update from lack of being installed.  l8r guys at 92% after 2.5 hrs cya!  :getmad:

What are the odd? yep everything was going as it should
1. files freshly dl to usb stick inserted into efika
2. turned it on esc. boot scsi:0 morphos-2.1-efikainstall.img
3. booted without dropping usb(changed stick)
4. began install on iwiz
5. next all the way to prompt on morph2.0 file edit:<---that was the problem 2.0 should be 2.1!!!!!!!!
6. selected freshly formatted sfs dh0: partition
7. again install stopped at 4459 files!!!

 :getmad: anyway i had the files also on the drive, so i dragged them over to the boot drive.

it boots, but how can i confirm i have the update?

edit: my guess is no, us*(not to offend) hung and no song on an mp3.
I'm happy for everyone else :roll:

Maybe it's because of the 30 minutes timeout of the demo is being reached ?

My Efika and HIS Radeon9250 128mb graphics card both arrived today, hurray!

I don't own a single USB storage device, BOO!

I thought for a minute that I could use my iPod as a USB storage device, so I plugged it into my Windows PC, because that is where I had downloaded the morphOS2.1_efikainstall.img file.  What a mistake!!! My XP Pro PC almost locked up completely for several minutes, then finally asked me if I wanted to completely reformat my iPod for use on the PC.  I hit cancel and struggled for another 15 minutes to get Windows to give me the okay to remove hardware message.  My iPod never did give me the okay and after a half hour I unplugged the iPod anyway and it is locked up on the "Do Not Disconnect" screen, so I have probably screwed my 80GB video iPod, Arrrrrrggghhhhhhh!

Back to the Efika:  Is there no other way to install MorphOS2.1 on to my Efika?  I have a USB to 44pin IDE adapter, will that work?  I think I will go try by attaching a 4GB laptop drive to it and transferring the MorphOS2.1 file to that and then plug the adapter into the Efika.  Wish me luck.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)
