Title: A1 & joysticks??
Post by: on November 12, 2002, 10:19:44 AM
Will it still be possible to use my old-skool arcade joysticks on the A1, cause I'd rather use these than all those modern sticks...

Thanks

The XArcade (http://www.x-arcade.com/) supports USB, and so will "AmigaInput" for OS4.

If you want to use a 9-pin Amiga joystick, you need a Catweasle Flipper.

Uhh... serial ports? Amiga joystick ports are NOT the same as 9 pin serial ports! (although you can send and receive serial data over them, but thats a different matter...)

with the A1200 bridge and a A1200 slapped onto the A1, exposing it's ports at the back, it's possible. Or so some people say. Guess we have to wait and see...

Anyway, Why are all modern joysticks so crappy? I mean, I got a Sidewinder for my PC and the only games it's good for is flightsims. Try a platform game with that one and you get sorely disappointed. My slikstik (Oh, I want that one remade!) for the Amiga is much more neat to play games with.  :-D

@Desolator

don't use a analog joystick to a platform game use a digital one.
Try a gamepad perhaps.  :-P

I just hate the arcade (coin-op) joystics... Why the hell do they have the buttons to the right?!!!! All of my joystics have them to the left so I can manage the stick with my right hand. (I have also one that has them in both sides fot the left handed)

This crap thing I think started in the `90s so that we loose much easyer lol and spend more money on these arcade macchines

Good for you. Personally I think you can't beat the Cheetah Bug joystick.

I only posted the X-Arcade because the original poster asked for an old school arcade style sticks.

There was one called "The Arcade" it was black with a single red botton in the middle, making it ideal for both lefties and righties.
It's the best joystick ever made, I have quite a few of them :-D.
I wasn't able to find a picture of it, though some guy posted one here once.
I don't remember who made them, though.

@edderkop

But I don't like gamepads. :) Ah, guess I'll have to get used to them anyway.. :)

@Tickly

Now the Cheetah Bug was a seiously good joystick. Bought 4 of them while they still were on the market.

They were made by Suzo in Rotterdam. Best thing Holland ever produced :-D. I managed to break the microswitches in them quite a few times. I had the tendency to smash joysticks into walls when I lost another live, luckily I'm much more relaxed these days.  :-D

Mr_Tickle. i know this is off topic, but i see you have a vectrex on your video brewery site..

Do you intend to do some vectrex coding ?

a friend of mine is currently doing a bit of vectrex coding, and last night we were having a little play on it.
pretty cool. Got yourself a programmable cart ?

An USB device with two (or more for multiplayer mayhem? ;) 9pin DSUB connectors in the other end for digital joysticks would be kind of nice :) Anyone with a solder iron that could make such a thing? :)

No. I don't have a vectrex. I'm going to write some Atari 7800 games though (already modified the 7800 to work with my 144Kb RAM cart and written the Amiga software to transfer to and from it)

Black and Yellow 'Competition Pro' Joystick, the one with the 'Microswitchs' in  the buttons.

I loved that Joystick, it was my friend, and my favorite weapon in IK+  :-D

Damn...those Tac 2's were 'strong'  :-D

Except the newer Tac-2 with a plastic stick that replaced the metal one. You could easily crack one of those.  :-(

YES! That's the one. It's the best joystick I've ever held in my hands. I have never really liked any other 'stick than this one.

I'd better get that Catweasel thingy, so I can put them to use again.
Btw., this Catweasel is it the same one that allows you to read Amiga floppys on a pc drive?
